Hello every. I'm starting a small grow inside my closet and i haven't got any equipment yet so I'm looking for some insight on what I should get. The closet is about 4 feet long and 2 feet deep and like 6 feet tall. I plan on growing 3 or 4 plants at a time with an area for a mother and clones so I can keep it on a constant rotation. I was originally thinking I would go with CFLs but now I figure if I'm going to be using around 400 watts of power for the lights I may as well use HP's. I'm tossing around the idea of two 150 watt HP's and like 4 20 or 30 watt CFLs. I plan on making my own soil and using just plain old miracle grow for nutes unless there's a site I can get better units from for fairly cheap with fast shipping. The reason I'm growing is mostly for personal but I know a guy I can unload anything from an ounce to a ton on for a good price so hopefully I can make a bit of change off it. I'm hoping to crop out a quarter pound everytime and will build my setup to try and accommodate this goal. Any insight on how I can do this is my limited space would be appreciated. Forgot to mention I pay about 15 cents a kWh and want to keep my electricity bill under 40 or 50$ a month

18$ is way better then I figured it would be. I suppose I'll need a fan or two but I can't imagine they cost a lot to run. So to use 400 watts of lights should I use just one 400 watt HPs and nothing else? Would It be better to go with a few smaller ones.

A 400 watt bulb will still create a good amount of heat. Do you have an air conditioner? It is the number 2 most costly part of a grow. You could probably take air from outside and vent it back outside with a 400 with little problem. As for how many lights to use I would use 1 for 3 - 4 plants in that small area.

I'm using my phone and it likes to double post apparently. It also has some crazy auto correct so don't mind the random out of place words mid sentence

Its a difficult one...u would know yr requirements best.
Are U using the closet to do all yr growing,or are U open to doing yr mom/clones in a seperate area?
A 400w is a good investment, but it'll create a lot of heat in that closet, espesially if there is additional lighting in there.
If U wanting a good supply of fresh herb, look at a sog perpetual grow.
U could do 8-10 plants under a 400w ,with a harvest every week.
You would still need a veg/clone area for yr mom and babies.a 4 bulb t5 would work well for begging...

If you use a 400 light in the closet, you'll have to be able to pull the hot air out of that closet or it will build up too much heat. The tradeoff is CFL's but they wont give you much as far as yield goes.
Lots of hydro stores online ship pretty much same day to you. I personally wouldnt use miracle gro anything.
When I started growing I put in twin 400 watt lights and my electric bill went from $45 a month to $ 120 a month every month for the past two years.
Not trying to dishearten you on this fella but at the same time, your going to find that indoor growing has a lot of considerations IF you really want it to turn out good enough to be proud of, and have some sort of decent yield at the same time.
Good luck and have fun at it.

I'm totally an open book right now as how to do the setup. But I would like to grow as much as possible in my small space without having so many plants that I will end up in prison. I'm thinking if I have 3 or 4 plants flowering and a mother with 4 or 5 clones vegging I should be able to say its personal but I don't really know. I'm wondering if I did scrog and begged each one till it was huge then flowered 2 at a time if I could hit my goal of a QP every 3 months? I do have an ac but I think with the amount of energy they burn it would bring my profit margin down low enough that it wouldn't be worth while. Happen to have a link to a perpetual scrog grow that crops out every week?
