Indoor/Outdoor Season Journal

Ha. I have the same cups, same humidity and temperature gauge, and same hps light. Cool.

Well, This is my first attempt at a serious grow and things are going surprisingly well...for now at least. I have a few different crops set for this summer and fall so I guess I'll just start off with my outdoor grow.

Strain: Homegrown Fantaseeds Outdoor Mix from Attitude (regular)

I was curious what strains they put in it so I emailed Homegrown Fantaseeds and here is there reply:

Hello *******

Thank you for your email

Our Outdoor Mix is a random mix of seeds suitable for outdoor growing.
And there is Skunk#1, Masterkush, Top44, Flashback, Caramella, Afghani. Northern Lights, in there

Regards

Homegrown fantaseeds

Seems like a decent mix to me, especially for only $28.

Soil: Miracle Gro Organic Choice Garden Soil
I heard this stuff isn't really the best for cannabis, but I didn't really have much of a choice. There isn't anything except Wal Mart and Lowes around here, so I'm stuck with what they have unless I wanna drive 2 hours or pay outrageous shipping costs. I was low on cash at the time and figured better off using the money for seeds. To be honest it's actually pretty decent stuff. Not a lot of bark and twigs and no added fertilizer. Just a little perlite and you're good to go.

Lighting: (2) 15w T8 4200K Fluoros
Not really top of the line stuff, but good enough for this application. I plan on starting them indoors for 2-3 weeks before I move them out to the bush so I'm not really going to worry about it. More would be better and higher temp would proably help me out more, but they are actually growing pretty awesome considering. The thing is I have a brand new 250w hps but no room to use it. I think I might give it a dry run after I get these plants out and before I start the next batch.

The Grow: 7 out of 7 germination
2 were looking pretty scrawny and starting to turn brown. Didn't think they were gonna make it so I pulled them today (day 10). Gives me more light and room for the other 5.

So here they are at day 10:

Haha I think everyone on this forum has that same temp/RH gauge. The $8 wal mart special. How's the light working out for you? Unfortunately, my closet got a little too hot for it and didn't really need it anyway since I move them outdoors long before flower.

Just got back late last night from vacation since saturday and easy ryder seedlings look like shit. Dried out and got heat stressed. I soaked them and moved them extra far from the light but it wasn't enough. I knew I should have had my cousin come check on them. The smallest one was unharmed, another one is wounded but I think will pull through, and the last one I'm not sure about. Pretty pissed since I paid like $40 for 3 seeds, but whatever, shit happens.

Haven't been out to check my other girls in awhile, so I'll probably do that today. Need a spray and probably a good feeding. My brother is still down in Ocean City with the camera, so no new pics for at least a day or two.
Damn bro that sucks, sorry to hear that! As you know I've had some shitty luck myself these past couple days.
Hopefully those girls will pull through for you.

We've been having some crazy winds and some strong thunderstorms the past few days. A little concerned about my girls. The stalks are pretty thick and seem strong, but I'm mostly worried about the tops breaking. Gonna head out tomorrow morning to check on them and snap some new pics. Also gotta start digging the holes for the 3 easy ryders.

Hey man, I did come over and check you out. Hope the winds gave you no worries.

I want to know what the deal is, you've got 3 times the "views" on your grow as I do, and my plants are 3 times bigger than yours, what gives :-) ??

Just kidding man, I'll be back to check out your pics, I hope your plants came through the storms ok, and my condolences on your seedlings.

Haha, don't let my views be your yard stick. I think the views are mostly due to the amount of replies on my thread from some a small group of friend who's grows we are all mutually following closely. Your grow is awesome man! I'm pretty happy about my plants, but your Kaya Golds are incredible. In my defense, lol, it's been a few weeks since I put some pics up and they've progressed quite a bit since then. Gonna try to get some new ones up tomorrow.

As for the winds and rain, they weren't damaged at all. Have some issues with yellowing of lower leaves one my plants, but other than that things are looking good.

The Easy Ryder seedlings have bounced back and are looking good except for one which is still kinda stunted, but should pull through. I've swapped out the 4200K fluoros that came with the fixtured with some 6500K daylight tube and it is definitely made a difference. These are autos and are only a little over 2 weeks old and even with the stress, they are bigger and fuller than the non autos I've started earlier in the season at the same age with the 4200K bulbs.

For all you outdoor fans, check out Carolina Green Bud's grow

Finally snapped off a few new pics. The past few weeks have been pretty uneventful, but now that they are in the begining to flower things are getting a bit more interesting, haha. Tried taking a few macro pics of the early flowers but I'm still trying to dial in with the macro. Think I'm taking them a little too close, so there's only one that came out that was worth saving. All 4 are looking great. I'm very pleased with everything so far. All the plants are well over 5' and one is over 6'. The Nirvana NL that I FIMed gave me 3 tops now. It's a little hard to see, but I LST it too. My only complaint is that the big 6' is still having problems with lowering of the lower leaves. I've been feeding them once a week with full strength nutes, so I'm not sure if it is a nute issue or a ph issue or something else. The hole is a little small, so maybe it is a little root bound, I dunno. They aren't buried in grow bags or anything, so there should be nothing stopping the roots from growing into the surrounding soil other than the fact that the native soil is clay in that area. Since they are all in the early stages of flowering, I'm using the "transition" mix according to the Botanicare instructions. 1 tbsp of Grow and 1 tbsp of Bloom per gallon. The three Easy Ryders I started about 3 weeks ago are looking good too and except for one have recovered nicely from the heat stress when I was on vacation. I'll post some pics and update on them later. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the hairs on the 6' Fantaseed in the first pic have a purple tint to them. Since it is an outdoor mix, I'm not sure of the genetics, but I emailed Homegrown Fantaseeds after I bought them and they gave me a list of possible strains included in the mix. The only ones that say anything about turning purple are Afghani and Flashback. I'm pretty sure it isn't Afghani because that is a pure indica and the plant clearly has some sativa in it. I guess I will never be certain what strains they are, but honestly, I'm not too concerned.

1) Fantaseed 1 6 footer w/ purple hairs
2) Fantaseed 1 terrible early flower shot
3) Fantaseed 2
4) Ceres Purple
5) Nirvana Northern Light (Ceres Purple in the background)

Like I promised, here are the Easy Ryders. I think they are looking great and should be ready to go out this weekend. Matter of fact, they will definitely be going out this weekend because they just started to show sex and I want them soaking up the sun when they start flowering soon. Seems like a great strain so far. They bounced back nicely from the heat stress last week. The one on the right got the most damaged and is still a little behind, but should pull through. It been exactly 3 weeks since I planted the cracked seeds, so this weekend will make them 3 weeks since sprouting. By far, with heat stress and all, this is my best batch of seedlings this year. They are autos and they are even bigger and fuller than the reg seeds I started throughout the season. I changed out the 4200K fluoro tubes that came with the lights with 6500K daylight tubes and it has definitely made a huge difference. I STILL can't take good macro shots.

Saw your new pics, they have grown a lot.
I've had a lot of leaves yellow, and I've pulled off a lot too. At the bottom of the plants I wouldn't worry too much.

Lookin good.

Got some new pics today. They are really starting to come along nicely. All 4 big ones have been in flower for about a week or two now. Seems like the Ceres Purple is the farthest along and has the most developed flowers so far. Starting to get some yellowing on the lower leaves, especially the 6' tall one from the fantaseed outdoor mix. Not really sure what the problem is, but I'd say about 1/3 of the way up all the big fan leaves have yellowed.

Also got some pics of the easy ryders. The first two went out over the weekend, and I finally got the last one out the other day. When I took them out they were nice and short and compact, but they really stretched in just a few days. They will be a month old this weekend and have been flowering for about a week now.

I never thought they would have gotten so big. Maybe 4-5' but not 6+ in the begining of August. Only a month in but I'm really liking easy ryder so far. Have some nice branching starting to form. My last auto I grew didn't have any, just little popcorn buds at the nodes. You can tell from the pics I decided to go with buckets this time rather than planting straight in the ground. Really didn't like digging more holes this year and I figure the buckets will give me some more flexibility in case I want or have to move them. 2 are in 2 gallon and the other is in a 2.5 gallon bucket. Should be plenty.

Hey sonar, I saw your post on the LST thread. You've got some great looking plants. If you can figure out a way to LST those Easyryders a bit, I'd do it. Not too late in my opinion. Do it later in the evening and when they need watering so they are a bit more flexible. I just started LST'ing my outdoor autos for the first time because, like yourself, I wasn't happy with the yields I've been getting.

By the way, I just ordered more Easyryder seeds because I like the smoke - despite the low yields I've gotten. Cheers.

Thanks for the heads up. Yeah the yield of my last auto I grew sucked. I had it in a bad spot though. I have these is a much better spot, so I'm expecting to do much better this time. Even still, if I pull an oz total off all 3 I'd be happy. If all goes well, the 4 big plants should be finishing not too much longer after, so getting a huge yield isn't as important. I like them though, they are really fun to grow.
