I will say, I have poured over all of the info sannie has on his forum. His own grow journals, his breeding journals, and specifically the journal where he details his killing fields selection. He talks about putting the offspring through a large number of stress trials to identify hermie prone genetics. He spends several weeks constantly changing light schedules, jacks the heat up, jacks the heat down, alternates between extreme temps, ties stuff down, etc. He basically does everything he can to encourage a hermie, and tosses any offspring who respond. Of course, hermies are always possible, but I do know he takes a lot of precautions to ensure we're getting great genetics.

That is good to know. When I order some fem seeds from sannies if none hermi then I will be sold on his seeds till they do. I don't mind spending extra money at all! I was going to make seeds with the regular seeds I have now of the KF seeds but I may have some money issues here soon so I am thinking I can't tie up one of my rooms for a seed making prodject. Maybe just go with fem seeds from sannies right now. I like that he tries to stress them out and get them to hermi on him! :) I am going to go do some reading on his forums.

the kf and herc I got were fem. so far so good, not a single ball in the lot, just tasty looking virgins!
 
just a small update. Probably won't have pics till the next harvest, but the process continues :)

on the 19th the latest plant to enter flower got transplanted to a 5 gallon from its 2 gallon. It was a little late, but we'd run out of perlite, and kept not making it to the store, so couldn't mix up more soil, d'oh. But it's all happy now :)

Plotted out prospective harvest dates using the tail end of sannies listed flower times so the veg could be timed properly.
Lavender/Bluberry-Sativa - 1/9
Killing Fields purple - 1/16
Harijuana/Big-Wite - 2/4
Killing Fields pink - 2/11
Hericules - 2/11
The most recent one we put to flower (we named him the twist, though the origin of the name won't make sense to anyone :D) will be ready on 2/13, the day before valentines day :)

So today I transplanted the hericules in veg to a 2 gallon. It'll replace the lav/bbs, and should get ~3 weeks to blow up in the 2 gallon.

Well mine that hermied on me from Nirvana didn't get balls! They grew banana pollen sacks in the buds. I now know what those look like so I am on the look out for any! I had one clone from a hermi mother and plucked the banana as soon as I saw it. And I didn't see any new ones but I got scared with 11 other plants in my flower room and chopped it a week later. I just didn't want the chance for it to pop a banana that I didn't see.

Have you seen what pollen bananas look like bro? It was on my first grow and I missed them thinking they were some weird colored hair growing out of the buds. Just making sure brotha.

yeah, they start out as little balls (or more appropriatley spades) on little stalks. The sides will get ridges, and the whole thing will splay out, and that's where you get the banana looking sacks. By this time it's either releasing pollen or is about to. We had a hermie pollinate several plants when we first started. Basically ruined out first crop, and finalized the decision to switch from bag-seed.

Late phase hermies seem to be pretty common though, on every crop so far, we've kept a good eye and not found a single pollen sack, but so far we've found 1-2 seeds per oz. I think these late hermies are so surrounded by sticky bulging buds that the pollen doesn't go anywhere and just causes a seed or two. That's just been our theory though :)

I just remembered that we have two trays of clones from when we were considering a sea of green. They aren't very big, but there's 10 of them we'll chop in the next week I think, so I'll do a pic update then :)

Lots of people have been asking about these lately. The consensus seems to be that as long as the banana things only show up at the end of the harvest, you are probably ok. If they show up real early, you are probably in trouble with seeds. And from what I have read, those stress bananas late in flowering are just the result of stress, and the plant trying its best to procreate. The plant is still female, just stressed out female trying to save the genetics.

yep, 100% my experience as well. Before I'd had harvests I had wondered why people always said late season hermies weren't a big deal. That's just my theory that they are so smashed in sticky dank buds that the pollen never really gets out, just pollinates 1-2 bracts/calyx that are touching it... Again, just my theory, but other than finding a seed or two per oz I never notice any issues, and never actually see the male parts.
 
So the OC is cured enough to be worth reporting on.

Appearance: Dark green with purple blotches at the tips. Covered in long, crystalline, trichs, with liberal tufts of red hairs. (Picture coming later tonight...) Medium calyx to leaf ratio. Very dense.

Odor: Does not have a strong odor. We basically had to break up a bud to get enough to determine the smell. It has a primary pine smell, with a hint of over-ripe citrus.

Taste: heady pine flavor with a sweet citrus edge. Aftertaste is light, but is there. Not overly thick in the lungs. Slightly harsh on the throat, but not overly so. Not too difficult to take a large hit.

Potency: It is significantly better than the $40 eighth the seed came from, so the potential isn't bad. We each smoke heavily, and took us ~5 hits each to be where we wanted to be.

High: Harvested at 62 days (listed as a 50-60 day strain). Slightly more on the couch-lock with a loose body effect, but with a generous portion of cerebral euphoria. Heightened visual senses, with depressed sense of touch.

Figured I'd throw in a few pics of my current piece. I'm a fan of steamrollers and chilums. This thing is great, nothing showy in the glass work, but perfect sized bowl hole, and the carb end releases 100% of the pressure, giving it insane push power :)

I run a perpetual as well, but on an even smaller scale - jealous of your recent upgrade! For a number of years I've been growing the same grapefruit x hashplant a friend brought back from BC - I've just started flowering a new Pineapple Chunk. I finally had a reasonable non-grow address I could use for seeds :) I love your variety.

Yeah, we started out in a little closet, but circumstances just aligned to where for the time being the room wasn't in use, and all those plants were just too big for the little closet.

Since I planned on doing a lot of cloning to make buying seeds more economic and waste less time on males (if not using fem), we go two flower cycles with the same genetics; the second cycle being mostly clones. I've always been a connoisseur I really appreciate some variety and different qualities of high, so having at least 3 different strains at any one time was a requirement of our grow :) Otherwise we'd end up with the same strain for ~6 months.

I do envy how dialed in you must be able to get with those same genetics. With the way we do things I just barely start feeling like I know a strain when we switch it out.
 
Nice bud shots! OC certainly does have alot of bag appeal.

What kind of pipe is that? Its long and straight and I'm not certain I've seen one like that.

It has huge bag appeal. IMO it looks better than the potency, but it's still a decently potent strain. I suspect it's quite a hit with commercial growers for this same reason.

the pipe is a 'steamroller'. They are basically bongs without water, and a carb instead of a pull bowl. I've never been a huge fan of bongs. They get you stoned fast, but I have always felt that taste was lost, and taste is a large part of the experience for me. At the same time I love the huge chambers. Steamrollers have the large chambers, without the taste loss of bongs. There are many different styles, and not all are completely open on the end like that one. However, I specifically look for ones with larger carbs than mouthpiece holes, purely because when you fill that chamber with smoke, and release the carb, the whole thing de-pressurizes and it jams the smoke down your throat like a steam roller :)

I have a fondness for chillum's for the same reason :)

Be warned though, good steamrollers and chillums (smoked properly) will leave your hand reeking of ganja. They aren't great 'out and about' pieces for just this reason...
 
Great set up and you have to love sannie's. Just finished reading start to finish and must say I have really enjoyed. Since I am just about to add lights for flower and with the tips you gave me I had to come look. I look forward to adding KF to my lineup soon, just cracked El Monstre again and cracked an el monstre x el monstre I made last year. I also have their sativa queen, blue diesel and a couple of crosses I made from his strains. Ya'll keep up the good work, I'm subbed.

I love my steamroller. First pipe I ever owned that wasn't handmade from a can or something.
(my god, that means it's over 20 years old now...eek I feel old. I have a pipe that's old enough to buy booze!)
