Indoor Soil Grow. Experiment to find the best of 12 norcal strains.

This is the journal for an indoor soil grow I am doing for a buddy. He has purchased 13 strains from clubs in norcal. They include:
GDP
Aff goo
Mendo Kush
Blue Dream
Blueberry
Purple Urkel
Green Crack
purple AK
Hog
Warlock
Sweet Tooth
Blue Cheese
Lavender

We are going to narrow them down to about 8 strains. Each will have one bonsai mother. We have 2 nursery racks in the veg room that can handel 6 mothers each. the racks are also used for clones. We plan to grow 2-3 strains at a time in the future but this is our second and last 12 strain grow.

We have a three stage set up.

one month in the veg room..

two in the flower

our electrical is run from a new 40 amp breaker. we used 8 guage wire. it then goes into a sub panel with 2 20 amp breakers and 2 15's. the 20's power the lights.

the veg room has one 1000 watt mh. it is hoisted up on a pulley system and is air cooled.

the flower room has 3 600 watt hps lights soon to also be hoisted the same way. they are also air cooled.

all plants are watered using an irrigation system that i designed. I use a 65 gallon res. covered in visqueen to prevent algae. from there i use pvc. first i install a manual valve to prevent future catastrophes. next is an irrigation selnoid connected to the irrigation timer in the elctrical pic. then i have a disconnect to detach the tank for whatever reason. finally i have a pump connected to a digital timer in sync with the irrigation timer. this can also be seen in the electrical pic.

after the pump i use t's to convert the pvc into a 1/2in brass bushing and then to a 1/4 in brass barb. the barb fits 1/4 in spaghetti tube. the spaghetti tube is split using t's to create enough drippers for the amount of bags i have. the whole system is automatic.

We feed them with gh and use 1/2 strength of what they recommend. the big plants need to be watered everyday. we also supplement with hygrozyme. our ph is usually around 6.7-6.9.

The grow is a CGE (closed grow environment). so we supplement with c02.

there is no intake or exhaust. But we do have an ac unit and heater. all the walls were insulated behind visqueen. temps usually are between 75-85 with no problems. usually around 80.

Day 1 in soil:
2 clones were taken from each strain a week and a half prior. one sweet tooth didnt root all the rest did percfectly. (23 out of 24) here is the start of a new generation.

we took the clones one day into flower, on accident. most were still in veg. but some we had to revert. here is a pic of what i believe is a successful revert. notice the dead buds and hairs.

more to come.. enjoy.. comments and questions welcome

Day 9:

I made the mistake of using peat moss. with this irrigation setup its not really necessary. since peat moss is acidic and i am having to deal with slight ph problems. i have found 7.5 water to help a lot.

the sweet tooth has been most effected

the rest look fine. i have given them one feeding with 1/2 strength gh grow formula. all the rest have been 7.5 tap water. the res. isnt hooked up yet.

Here is the nursery rack we will use for clones and the mother bank. Lowes was throwing them out (i think:mrgreen:) so we snagged em for free. they came with shelves.

the flower room looks beautiful.

great setup, great outcome as I see from the pics. One question. Does CGE really work that good? Its pretty impressive... How many pressurized bottles of CO2 did u use per week while flowering?

CGE works fantastically! Heat is a bit harder to control but temps of 80-85 actually cause your plants to grow faster in a c02 enriched environment. The c02 has to be refilled once every 2 weeks but i am going to upgrade to the larger tank. right now its 30 bucks to refill. So its an extra 90 bucks per cycle but trust me its worth it. in cold regions you can use propane burners to produce c02 and these are much more economical.

wheres the purple urkel i want to c what mine will look like when done??
unfortunately the urkel is our slowest growing strain( which usually means most potent =). The plants we have in flower completely out grew the urkel leaving it with no light. For this generation i will be sure he receives light. Be careful with nutes on your urkel. Out of all my strains they were the only ones to get nute burn after my first feeding of gh.

Day 16:
health wise the plants are good. The purple erkel got slightly burnt from a dosage a gh but all rest sucked the nutes up and exploded.

Unfortunately this entire generation was taken one day into 12/12. this has caused almost every strain to be forced to revert from flower into veg. when plants do this they grow retarded mutated leaves.

Your clones will take longer to root, and the growth pattern will be, shall we say, wierded out mega. Im talking about 20-30 branches possible and tons of deformed and wierdo leaves. I had a friggin insane swath of clones one time. But with fine manicuring and pruning off the odd veg growth, eventually the plants all returned to the proper pattern. I believe that the flowering horomone remains in residual traces off any clone of a flower or post flower plant. Thus as time passes the growth pattern slowly returns to normal. Like I said, in my case of attack of the clones, it took two generations until the plants grew completely naturally (close to as they would from seed). Honestly if you start with a retarded looking stem with one leaf, it has the chance of bouncing back. - JJgrands
old growth of this mendo kush is deformed

new growth looks much more regular

heres some more

one leaf retard

The definition of nute burn

And now for the good stuff..

The flower room. these guys are about 5 weeks into flower.

Nice setup man! You said 3 600w lights is that for flower alone? What kind of weight are you pulling in - im planning on a similar grow.
