Hi,
(sorry about my bad english)
I cant find any hydroponics suppies in my country. But i really want to try it.. (although i get good results with soil) I like challenges.. I really want to do it. I built my aerophonic set up.. Bought salts and got my hydrophonic nutrients recipies... etc etc. I found ph meter and EEc meter. made my own ph control solution. (both up and down). Downloaded some hydrophonics books..

The only problem is finding a growing medium. Can i use industrial rockwool?? what should i do? Does any one have any idea???
thank you very much for your helps..

PS: ordering from internet made no good.. They charged money from my credid card but sent nothing..

Alper.. are you in turkey?
WHat is industrial rockwool? Whatis it used for? If you do use it.. make sure you soak it first for a few hours.. and maybe test some clones and see if they survive..or another plant besides MJ..

You cold also use hydroton clay rocks as a hydro medium... or any inert rock..

keep us posted..

exactly like GK said,,,any inert rocks will work, it just may not work as well. when i first started and didnt want to spend any more than i had to, and didnt want to order anything from the net so i used lava rocks. they are cheap and you can get them just about anywhere.

i hope you're not talking about fiberglass insulation. that stuff is not cool. probably not good for growing either. good for irritating skin though :)

i have researched a bit about horticular rockwool... I certainly know that horticular rockwool had been developed from industrial rockwool in denmark arownd 60's i the real differenve betwen them is since the main usage of industrial rockwool is insulation it is hydrophobic.. and it is also alcaline.. ?f can find a suitable cure to solve these problems i am sure i can use it to grow.
thanks for all replies...

The rockwool used for hydroponics is made just like they make cotton candy.. No kidding. This is also the same way the make fiberglass insulation. When making cotton candy you use sugar. for fiberglass you use glass. for rockwool you use metal. All three of these are made the same way. Rockwool for commercial insulation is the same as Hydroponic rockwool, but of a lower grade. You could search around for a supplier that has good high grade rockwool. It would work, but you would have to wash it more. It has more dust particals in it, and also will contain some solid metal particals also. Myself, i would never use commerical grade rock wool. If you are having trouble finding a grow medium, then go out and get some good clean small particle gravel and just grow in that. it will work fine, but you will have to water more often.
