Infertile Seeds?

I have recently harvested a low ryder#2 that had been fertilised with LR#2 pollen . The seeds looked perfect nice and dark and streaky. (over400)
Have planted about 2 dozen so far no success at all. Any Ideas please.

VO,
I have tried the tissue method and earth method seeds are not "Popping" either way. . How long do they need to rest after harvesting , or dont they need rest?

germination can take up to a week for some strains also there are conditions for each strain type that maybe sprout in 90 deg or higher.. try a few methods. two plates like a saucer with a few paper towels works just fine for me.

Don't think so, unless they were not mature. Press them between your thumb and the tip of your index finger. If they resist, probably they're good to go!

I take distilled water, pour about half a cup in a glass, throw seeds in. When they crack I put them in rockwool cubes (that have been wet,) and then set them in a dark place until I see a sprout coming out of the top.

Seeds that float have a better chance of sprouting, but that doesn't mean the ones on bottom won't! GL

some seeds i've had that seemed to be immature sprouted, so really its a hit or miss on some occasions.. best of luck and happy growing

Bamfrivet, Thanks for your reply the plant was grown to full term , then hung for few days then deseeded and seeds have been kept for 1 month now in the cool dark container.

You need to let the seeds dry off in a not to hot and not cold area for a couple weeks. Then you can germinate followed by plant them.

2 dozen out of 400 isn't a big number of duds. I would say just keep trying your luck, some of the seeds have to be good.

I once got a grip of bagseed from eclipse strain...I dunno if the grower baked his bud to dry or what but every seed when I tried to germinate they didn't. I threw about half dozen in a foil wrapped shot glass with water...2 days later none popped open and all turned black and covered in mold. These were the seeds that looked good too.

fresh seeds have a chemical / gene w/e in them that does not allow them to germinate (that way they stay in the ground for spring rather than trying to pop out of the ground right after the plant would naturally die / hit the ground ...) you said you waited a month , maybe the seeds are still dormant , i waited a month for mine and they worked though but im sure its dif by strain....ive read 6 weeks to 2 months about is average time till they are good to go , you may just need a few more weeks. hope this helps.

Yea some plant seeds do this...I know this from looking up germinating japaneese maple seeds. You have to I think its called quenching. Use hot water then plant in a bag of unfertilized wet soil in a fridge to simulate the season change. I dunno if weed needs this though

Rawrfox, Thanks for that my friend, I think you have hit the nail on the head. Your explaination makes good sense I think they are still dormant.
Thanks.
