No filter needed. A lot of people will put their carbon filters inline to control odor, that keeps from having to run 2 fans.Hi, i have this inline fan that runs through my light for cooling it do i have to have a pre filter on the fan before the air hits the light or is that not necessary thanks

No. I believe it will put an unnecessary stress on the fan. Periodically clean your bulb, I do mine 4 or 5 times a grow, an you're good to go.
