Anyone have any good fans that are pretty quiet for a apartment. Have 130 to spend for a fan and filter.
 
I ordered mine from HTGSupply.com. Its a fan and filter combo. They have some competitive prices. Mine cost like 180, I am sure they have a cheaper one but its for smaller rooms.I took it down after one grow I couldn't stand the fuckin jet fan sound and banging my head off the thing every got damn day. Got some booster fans and they work just perfect. They do dampen down the smell but it still present. Or maybe I was hooking it up wrong I am not sure.
 
Hell I will even sell you mine if I can figure out how to ship without giving you my address lol. 50$ its is yours. its 6 inch inline and filter. The fan is really loud, they sell things on htgsupply.com that adjust the speed so they are not so loud, but then you do not get the effectiveness of the filter. Your neighbors will for sure hear it buzzing unless you can find a way to dampen the sound. Even outside my house you can hear my duct fans buzzing if you pay attention.
 
If you find the manufacturer's data on the fans check decibel ratings. Its a place to start. Also in my experience most of the fans used are move way more air than needed. My exhaust system moves 250 fpm and works great for odour control in a 8x8 room. Heat removal may require more but in my case it also works ok depending on amb. Temps. Another thing to consider is duct size. How big of piping r you using, and is it flex or rigid? FYI Mr. Robert brings up a valid point.
 
u can always build a duct muffler if the noise is that bad, insulated ducting can help to. I run a 4" fan and filter in my closet setup with no ducting and u can barely hear it if the closet is closed, I know it cant be heard in the hallway or the neighbours apartments because ive listened for it. I use LED though so heat isn't really an issue just have the fan for air circulation and smell control
 
4x4 tent with 400 watt 6" cool tube have a 600 as well but I use one or the other. And Mr Robert does have a valid point but we all know what risks we are taking when we signed up for this hobby don't always need reminded what risk apartment growers are taking.

Yeah I mainly need it for smell and air as well
 
its worth noting I live in an apartment as well. The main thing that causes noise from the fan is vibration, so make sure it is properly secured in place and that you buy a fan that is of good quality. a duct muffler and insulated ducting will definatly go a long way towards making it quieter, your never going to completely eliminate the sound but as long as its not really noticeable outside the room you have it in I wouldn't worry, not many people would know what they are hearing anyway

I think he was referring to the fact that the op is doing something illegal and possibly extremly damaging to someone else's property. I have mixed emotions about this being a landlord myself. Sorry dont want to highjack or take away from the question. Sooo! If odour is your main concern then all that is required is to maintain a negative in your tent. Your tent would be in an adequate negative with a fan and filter rated for 80 cfm and above IMO. You can add a silencer after the fact if needed. Also if your using the 6" duct that will be fine. To small of pipe will increase velocity and if it exceeds 700 ish fpm it will be noisey.
 
put the fan in a box fill the box with sound insulation or rockwool works and use acoustic ducting this will reduce the sound in the grow room significantly
although this will not reduce the sound at the outlet, if you also need to remove this sound you will need some kind of muffler which is better to avoid as it will reduce the flow somewhat,

i always vent from room to room never directly outside
the outlet noise is not loud enough to be heard by neighbors overall it sounds quite natural like a gas heater / water boiler

this shows rockwool works pretty well, although this type of high pitched noise is
easier to block, with the fan you will also have vibrations, bubble wrap works well to remove vibrations
if suspending the fan from cords is not an option
