Input on grow room set-up

Sup y'all, I just hook up a killer deal, I got 1000w hps, and a 400w mh with both ballasts, reflectors, water pumps, 3 cycles of nutes and growing medium for $180.00!!!!

Y'all know what time it itzzz! I've been using floros for all my past grows and am really excited to get started with my first high-wattage grow. Only thing is that I'm a little lost now with the HPS/MH. Any input on set up, room dimensions, etc...

Any input would be appreciated. Maybe y'all could give me some ideas on how to set up my gear! I'll have to do a journal to document the set-up and first crop!!!

how many plants you lookin to grow ?? what size is your room you wanna do it in ? how offten do you what to harvest ?

thats definitely a killer deal... you just started playing a whole new game if you've only ever used flouros... so congrats...

but, as with all things, now you have all new set of problems... HEAT being a major one... ventilation and real estate are others... that 1K should light up an area no less than 4ft x 4ft... and the 400 will add some more space to the grow... so look at using something about 4ft x 6ft to grow in... some people dont have that kind of growing room.

those lights are going to cost more money than flouros to run every month, so to use it best, you'll want to use a hydro system of some sort (it will take longer in dirt).

but the rewards for solving all of these problems will be great... a couple of LBs to compensate you for your time make it all worthwhile

I'm not sure about the number, but I've got a space maybe 10x12 with an 8 foot ceiling.

You hit it right on the head 420, a whole new set of variables i've got to control. I think that eventually I will go the hydro/aero route, but funds /time is limited(end of semester). I've got 8 females flowering now and will harvesting within the next week.

What I plan on doing is transplant/rejuvinating my 8 girls for 2 months and reflower under the new lights. By that time the semester will be over and I can set up my grow room properly and setting up some sort of perpetual harvest. How far does a 1000w need to be from the plants?

in an air cooled reflector or not?

if so - i can get mine to about 12-18" from the glass.... if not... i'd say something like 3ft... never done that tho.

no not cooled, is there anything in the diy i could fabricate?

go buy a cooltube ,,i love them !! lower that 1000 down to 8 inch if u want

i would all so split the room and make a veg room using the MH ,, and you dont really want the 1000hps down that close because you want to cover the whole space ,, but for 100 bucks the cooltube is good for keeping the heat way down and you dont give off a big heat source from above !! and in the time you could even buy another MH400w and stick it in the cool tube with the HPS1000w (bloom room)so your gettin the best of both worlds,, if this is your first grow id go with soil ( less chances of somthing goin wrong ) ,,but thats what id do !

Sup y'all, I've been experimenting with my lights and space and like you said Bloodshot420 heat is going to be a concern. I set up 430w light and recorded temp and humidity readings for a few days, then the same with the 1000w light. There is a BIG difference, heat is definately going to be a major issue! The space that I set up the lights is on the west side of the house and during the summer it get HOT!

IcantGrow you mentioned a cool tube, I've never seen one, going to have to google it.

Y'all got any imput on a strain that would be good for a cash crop? For personal use I'm looking at Kali Mist and El Dorado, anyone ever smoked these?
