Trying to get some insight on this reflector heat shield I saw . Does anyone think this w/ a lens kit will help keeping heat down a few degrees? maybe 5, or is this bullshit? Im thinking of grabbing a growzilla light set up w/lens and heatshield,or the 4' long dual bulb cooltube instead. What do you guys think? Room specs 5' x 6'. all organic. Throw some ideas out there if you found something thats just as good and maybe cheaper or more efficient please. thanks guys.

A car bra for a reflector? Hmm I see no positive from it. It's amazing the stuff they come up with in this industry.

Air-cooling hoods are better then cool tubes, but more work is needed to run ducting and fans.

hey hole...haha i know rite...fukn bra for a light? lol...on the other hand air cooled hoods you say are better than tubes? If I am not mistaken i was looking at this set up but the growzilla made me think twice. Here is the first hood I had in mind:

No onpinion on the big ass dual cooltube though? and does the lens actually do anything either? thanks man.

actually the blanket works great. i made my own using 2 layers of the aluminum bubble wrap insulation and aluminum tape. cost was less than $25 for 2 reflectors and only took a few mins.

I would respectfully disagree.... emphesis on respect. Hoods set up right with adequate airflow should be radiating little to no heat at all. Granted, if you are unable to provide that airflow then try the the jackets but all this will do in return is radiate the heat that was trying to rise back at your plants.... counter productive.

By the way OP.... stay away from the cool tubes, they do help but you will be upgrading to hoods pretty quick when you see one at work, much more efficient.

Those covers arnt for heat. They are to block flir (Forward Looking InferRed) from pinpointing the hoods. So all they see is a room at 80 degrees not a single point putting off 160 or more.

I love my hooded cooltube. Don't see why everyone is so down on them. Yes you lose lumens but cooling air is less restrickted. So cooling is better letting the light go lower. So the lumen drop isn't a issue.

I ran cooltubes on the same extraction system I now have on hoods. I couldn't touch the face of my cool tubes, too hot. My hoods are a different story. I can put 4 hoods in series and they all stay cool, top and bottom. I can run my hoods (600 hps) 8 inches above my plants with no burning at all.

I can hold mine in the center of the bulb not much heat. But I move a shit load of air. 680 cfm just for my lights.

warlock are you sure its just for the flir ? the discription says "reflector fights against heat your lights generate for a cooler environment, happier plants and higher energy savings" ? is this a way of saying stay under the radar by usuing this cover? and superstone, would you say it's a noticable differance with the hood and jacket together? maybe 5 degrees? thanks guys

I really would like to try a hood this time around I just dont know which is the best for my situation. No one has any thoughts on the growzilla or xtrasun 6 with the lens huh? If not, what do you use and would it fit the bill for my 6' x 6' space ? i got ventilation and exhaust also. so consider all my parameters in an optimal range .

Yes I'm sure. They needed another way to market the product. So why not say it helpswith heat? Yes it helps but spending a extra 100 on a fan would be better.

This is true. I was grabbing an extra can fan too but thought every little bit helps rite? Now, is the lens for the hoods bullshit ? Think it takes away strength from the bulb or just keep some unwanted heat from getting in your room?

air cooled hoods don't really reduce lumen all that much, I think the benefits outweigh that bit
