ipower carbon filter question

Got it for cheap on Amazon. Never used one before. It's pretty heavy but seems well constructed. Obviously I attach it to the the outflow of my tent exhaust fan to catch the smell.

It came with a microfiber cover that fits over the body of the thing. What is that for? Is it needed? And why do they call it a "pre-filter?" Shouldn't it be called an after-filter?

:-? Thanks!

dont need it if the fan is blowing through the filter. but if your fan is sucking through the filter its there to filter dust.

what fan are you gonna use ?
the ipower 6" is crazy loud
im not aware of your setup
but this thing sounds like a mix of a dryer on crack / jet motor and its a cap motor so your really not suppossed to use a dimmer on it

ha ha ha... good thing i didn't buy one of those. i have a couple of options. right now i'm just using a small 6" duct in-line fan that's about 240CFM. that's what i've been using to exchange the air in the tent throughout this grow. my reflector is sealed and vented outdoors with a bigger 6" inline fan at about 450CFM so that vents off 99% of the heat. my temps have been fairly stable rarely going above 80 degrees. i have an extra big inline fan (~500CFM) i could use to vent the tent into the filter if needed but the smaller one seems to be working ok. when i came home today i noticed the weed smell was gone so the filter is working.

kinda hard to see but on the far left you'll see the bigger fan that vents the reflector outside of basement outdoors. in the back you can barely see the in-line fan that goes to the filter.

BTW this was just a quick setup. I might put the filter in the tent eventually.
