Iron/Rust too harsh for my reverse osmosis?

Short of starting with the purest water (or testing your water and including existing nutrients in your calculations, like commercial hydro) and adding and changing individual nutrient levels you will never get to that level of precision.
RO is be no means needed or even really helpful in most cases. A sediment filter or a sediment filter + carbon filter is the most 99% of us should need. RO is wasteful both in water and money in most cases. Only on rare exception is it really needed. It's also a bitch if you don't get a fast enough system. Too much complication to solve a simple problem, just match the nutrient you buy to your water.
Every single "commercial" hydro grow I have seen or assisted in set up. USED an RO system!!!! Be it medical marijuana OR herbs/veggies!!! The adding or adjusting of single nutrient levels is done quite often,,,,,even with organics now. You can get single nutrients and "make" you own target level nutrient mix!!

Now then....

If your water has a ppm of over 150......USE an RO! A pre filter with a carbon cartridge, will not work here....

I manage several grows. Each runs RO systems. One is self contained and reuse's all water cycled in the grow. When new water has to be run through the system to top it off, the "run by" or "waste" water from the RO is cycled out to amend the watering tanks of livestock.
The other grows "waste" is used for watering "personal" organic veggie and flower gardens about the 3 farms......We do NOT "waste" on our properties! (I must say I am frustrated with a local Herb grower as his vast hydro system use's RO and it does waste to drain).
"fast enough" systems are made for every imaginable size need you can come up with. I have not seen a complicated one yet.....In the long run. We save money across the board by using RO to totally control our feeding and supplementation process of our grows.

I respect your choice,,,,,not your opinion.
