is 4500k good enough for veg?

I bought two metal halide shop lights and bought two hortilux bulbs to go in them @ 75$ a piece, but there were other 6500k bulbs that were 130$ a piece. What is going to be the difference in growth, speed, quality? I went the cheaper route, but I know i needed my bulbs to be bluer than the2700k, is 4500k to lack that much behind the 6500k?

im not sure if that is a very good spectrum for growing plants. hopefully someone that knows better can help you but i think you might have been better off with even closer to a 2700k even for veging they still work.

Ok, have you actual experience with these spectrum bulbs (4500k)? 2700k is deep in the red spectrum, ideally for flowering (to mimic the autumn sun, lower in the sky, redder) I know 4500k is like right in the middle, my question, is am I losing performance time/ quality of growth by using 4500k as opposed 6500k, or is the difference so small as to be overlooked. I was using a hps 1000w (2700k as you suggested) but growth was stretchy and my main stems were small and spindly, so I switched to two 400w mh. thank you for your input, much appreciated, I dont want to sound ungrateful ;)

check this dude.... id say your loosing quite a bit by using that spectrum.... just my thoughts though, i tried once with a 4500, and although i killed the plant before it flowered (over fed it) it was looking ok.... but again i am a noob.

does anybody noe anything about white widow i got sum seeds and wanna make sure i do evrything rite to produce the full yeild can sumone help

Your breaking my heart lol, the box showed the PAR in all the right spectrums, just not in the intensities as the 6500k, I'm seeing good lush growth, so I know they are working, I just wish I knew how much faster the 6500k would move things along, short of going out dropping 130$ and running them side by side to do a comparison, its a money thing you know, but in this case is the short cut worth it?

Thanks frmrboi, does it make a difference that you were using cfl's and I am using mh, I noticed 10000 lumen difference in the two bulbs, (4500k had ten thousand more lumens than the 6500k) that and the price influenced my final decision... who the heck is going to buy used 4500k bulbs?

the answer is in the diagram.... actually diagrams since the same one was posted twice, but... i had a bagseed under a 4500 a looong time ago, but i remember two things killing it with nutes & Thinking how beutiful it was before it was killed.... so the graph says - not good.... but people have used them succesfully as mentioned above

i have heard of people using those, one or 2 stories of success, you wont kill them anyway with them lol

just that you can light up a bigger area per watt. plants have adapted to 6500 K light (think of the blue sky) billions of years ago so that's what powers photosynthesis the most efficiently.

You have to have over 50 posts at least (maybe more) for a rep point to count but you click on the star to the right of the line journal the post and a pop up will appear to take your rep.

i.e. have to be able to roll a joint in order to give rep, how lame... I guess they dont want noobs giving each other rep and looking like they know what they are talking about, I suppose I can see the rationale behind that, but they should have some aptitude test for growing so veterans can get instant credit, not that it matters to me, but I do appreciate your advice and input all the same, I'd just like to show some grattitude, thank you bro!

like i said dude you might be better off with the hps. but who knows its worth a shot right? at least you still have the hps to flower with. has the stretching stoped with your new light? good node spacing? i dont know man. but i do know that they say if your going to use one light go with hps so it will work during veg.

spacing is good, stretching stopped, but i wonder if the stems could get fatter and the plant grow faster...
