is $50 good price for 250w hps???

My buddy has a 250w hps setup (ballast, bulb, hood, everything) that he said I could have for like $50. It seems like a pretty good price to me. Don't know a brand name or anything I haven't seen it yet it's just something we talked about over the phone earlier today. He's always seemed like a pretty honest, straight forward kind of guy but I have to say I don't know him THAT well. Of course I'd have him test it and make sure it works. He said the reason he is selling it is because he upgraded and doesn't really need it anymore. What do you guys think? If everything is legit is that a pretty good price?

hell yeah it is I picked up a 250 for at least a hundred dollars a while back. You can't even pick up a MH kit for that price I don't think. I got my 400 MH for 50$ used a while ago too. They might be a little cheaper these days so run a search and see what they are going for. Than figure that your probably going to have to buy a new bulb and see what it works out to. Ask your buddy how many hours the bulb has been used just so you can determine if you need a new bulb.

what the hell that's probably about as cheap as you'll find them new. A bulb is probably 30$ or so I say go for it. I think I sold my used 175 a long time ago for 75$.

Yeah that's definitely a good deal, as long as it works well. You'll probably need to buy a new bulb if he's been using that one for a while. I spent $160 on a 250w MH+HPS light. The MH part isn't worth much to me, since I'm building a separate veg area now, but it was only like $10 more than the plain HPS.

I say go for it. 250w seems to be a good balance of heat to light for smaller grows.

yes, make sure it works first, with the money you save buy a MH conversion bulb, use that during veg for bigger growth

Yes its a very good deal, IF the ballast isn't too old and is working. Even if the bulb is shot, its still a good deal. If you need a new bulb you can find it WAYYYYYY cheaper than $30. Just look around and you can find bargins on bulbs, even conversion bulbs! You can't find a 250w hps or mh for lower than at LEAST $100 anywhere online.

Brand new HTG supply still in the box never even used! Just picked it up yesterday. Not sure why he just didn't send it back it was like a $150 system. Only problem is I have don't have anywhere to put it my grow space too small since it gets WAY hotter than I thought.
