Is 600 watt MH/HPS overkill for one plant

Hi all, I was wondering if a 600 watt MH/HPS combo for the veg and flowering stages would be considered overkill for a one plant grow. Im going to using a Secret Jardin DR120 II, and was wondering if a 600w would be too much for one plant, and if it would be better if i just used a 400 watt. Any info would be great, thanks!

Not an expert but if you LST and really fill the space, the 600 would be great. How many square feet is that tent? 50 watts per p square foot... ish. As long as you can control temps and can afford the setup, do it. But I have a 270w CFL grow in a 30"x20" space and my ladies are doin awesome. Good luck with whatever you choose, a real vet can give better advice than I.

Yea i was thinking of starting LST early and then moving onto a scrog. Not sure on the square footage, but the manufacturer recommendation says you should use 1 600 watt in the tent. So I am thinking that if I have adequate ventilation, a 600 for one plant should give me some good results, at least thats what i am hoping!

more light = more bud. just as long as you dont burn em from having the light too close, you will be fine
Thanks snuggie, thats what I thought just want to make sure that Im not doing something that would be too overpowering for one plant, but if im scrogging the hell out of it, it would really be like having multiple plants so a 600 watt would make more sense i think.

dont bother dude my first light is a 600 watt i got on impulse buy and i tried it out today only got one plant atm and i feel i wasted my money. fills a whole fucking room with light through just a crack in the grow area. too much. idk if you have adequate ventilation go for it.

If you keep the temps down to an adequate level, i thought it didn't matter how much light.

its just way more than i was prepared for. i have a small closet and in this case you can have too much light. looks like it could easily fill up my bedroom rather than a closet. for a jardin tent it might be alright though i guess, with a decent exhaust and cooling, which i dont have

If you have adequate exhaust, and fresh air flow, I do not believe you could have too much light unless you had 2000+ watts in a 4x4 space.
I say grow that one monster in a 7 gallon pot, LST the shit out of it (make it all colas if you have the know how) and you should yield near a half pound if the conditions are ideal with a good strain.

but no, by no means is 600 watt too much for one huge, bushy plant. Or even a small one so long as it doesnt get rootbound

Thanks for the info rock. Yea I think i'll be going hydro and using a waterfarm. I've been really inspired by the ScottyBalls, Dayzt, Mr2Shim, and Kriz grows and would really like to try my hand with the waterfarm/scrog method. Im just not sure if I should go for the Secret Jardin DR90II or the DR120II. Im thinking of going for the 120 for the extra space and headroom, so i could still do 1 plant in a tent that size and it would have plent of room to spread out width wise, with a little extra headroom for some sativa dominates.

10 gallon pot, old plant.get it nice and bushy up top, super cropping/fimming/bendinging. throw a screen over top let it fill out till the canopy is 2/3rds full. flip it to flower and one week in lollipop it(save cuttings for clones). would be absoultely awesome under a 600 with the right strains. i do the same with my mother plants under 400s would love to try under a 600 for a higher yeild.
