I've been thinking about this for a while now. I like the idea of having my grow space closed off from the rest of the house without sacrificing a room and hopefully it'll be stink and light tight. I grow with Aeriogardens, not aeroponics, but the patented self contained growing system. Lighting is cooler self contained CFL's and temperature shouldn't be a problem as I keep the house in the mid seventies year around. I'm assuming I'll have to have a ventilating fan for good air circulation and a carbon filter treating the outgoing air. I'm looking at some different brands of tents and I haven't decided which yet but they all seem to have basically the same features. I'd appreciate any tips, advice or warnings. Thanks, HSA.

I just got one, for 95$ off amazon.
3x3'x70"
not too bad. I am glad I didnt dish out the 300 for the "better one".
Because the 95$ one cant be beat on the value.
Mine isn't exactly LIGHT PROOF , but if you close it up properly EVERY time, there will be nothing to worry about.
(I dont think any marketed tent is 100% Light proof. The zippers leak light, but the flaps must be right to contain it)
Now smell is different, I dont run a carbon filter and I can smell my veg plants that are in the tent OVER my flower plants in the closet.
You can just tell the difference between my Paki's(veg) and the C99(flo).
They do get hot!.
I dont have ventilation squared away yet. My inline fans are not strong enough, So I rotate fans outta the flower box to the veg tent everyday Til I can dish out the 120 for a stronger inline.
Just some tips,
Make sure to think about size, Think about everything you are going to have in the tent, Getting something too big will sacrifice the light intensity, and too small - well you know.
When getting a tent or a cab setup, heat is the biggest issue. So when starting the tent out, do a few test runs and keep a close watch to make adjustments before the plants go in.
The tent I bought said 6 in fittings, The tent I received had 4 inch fittings. I own 6 in fans. So learn from me and maybe buy fans after you receive your tent. What you see when buying threw online retailers isn't typically what you get. None of the brick and mortar shops could beat the prices online inc. shipping.

I grow in a tent. A 2x4x5 tent. I ordered it from ebay. A simple search such as "4x4x6 grow tent" should
give you a good selection of choices. Most are free shipping and around $80-$120
The biggest problem I face is heat. I would highly suggest (just like bbyy) that you get your tent
first, then the lights and fan, and then set everything up and let it run.
We have our temps running at 81* with the tent closed off and RH at around 50-60% humidity. (which is a bit high for humidity)
So my # 1 suggestion is to get everythingrunning perfectly before putting your plants in.
I would shoot for temps to be at 76-78*, RH at 40-50%, and to have good air circulation.
I'd recommend putting in any oscillating fans you may want to have in first,
to gauge how many pots you can fit inside. I underestimated how much room an oscillating
fan would take in a small tent and I ended up being able to fit less plants than I had hoped.
Figure out how much vertical space you will have after adding in your equipment.
Plan for your ladies to stretch at least 2x their height in veg, and see how much actual room you have in
your tent vertically. Pots are a foot tall, the lights and yoyo's take another foot or so, and then you're
going to need to compensate for space between the top of the plant canopy and the light.
So my tent is 5 ft tall, I can only get my ladies at a max of 3ft tall when all finished flowering.
So I only have 3 vertical feet of growing space.
I'm not well versed with carbon filters, so maybe someone else can chime in about that.
My overall advice and tips really are to be prepared! You can never be too prepared.
Have absolutely everything you need before you even sprout your ladies.
That means ph and tds meters, thermometer/hygrometer, nutrients, pH up & pH down, temps under control
in the tent, etc.

I bought a 4'x2'x7' tent off ebay, it's the guy from Cali... he has good stuff and very fair prices, think mine was $82.95 shipped and didn't take long to get it. Quality stuff from what I can tell. The black canvas type tent material is thick and very durable, it's got plenty of vents, passive slot flaps with screens plus a few 4 " and 6 " round re-enforced duct flanges at the top and the back. The zippers are excellent quality, my first impression was "damn, this thing looks pretty good" they are sewn in and appear to be a little over-sized if anything. Honestly, I didn't expect that much for eighty bucks but I was pleasantly surprised overall, the frame poles are metal and they're powder coated white, it has nice injection molded synthetic corner brackets and even came with one spare corner bracket,!
My tent arrived in a plain discrete box and inside was the regular box, opened it up and the tent kit even included a storage bag like they have with the folding chairs, pop up tents, etc.
I'm running cfls and a diy carbon filter and a 4" cent. fan that pulls about 180 cfm, absolutely zero odor now! Granted, it's only just completed week two of flowering but I swear my skunk plants reeked after they got the third set of leaves after germination. During the day if I was home I'd open the tent up and let the girls breathe, well without venting into the attic or whatever you could smell skunk from down the hall and round the corner. I can only imagine how pungent they will be saw around week five to eight of flowering. I have a shelf made to hold my 5 gallon pots on top for flowering, it's the larger of the two chambers. Under the shelf is where the clones and vegging is happening. I'm still struggling with nute temps, I just scored a cheap used mini fridge off craigslist for $30 and I'm going to tinker with it to help cool my nutes down to a safer level.
I don't regret buying my tent not one bit.
