Is Cannabis a Gateway Drug?

I believe it is. Not in the way that the D.A.R.E. program says it is. I think that it is a Gateway drug because of the people you must associate with in order to get pot. They RARELY have access to only pot. Usually, you can get what you want. And if you're not sure, they will even give you a little taste for free!

Once again, I believe that cannabis is a Gateway drug ONLY because of where MOST people have to go to get it.

I think cigarettes and alcohol are much larger gateway drugs. They both have proven addictions, are easily obtainable, and may the user onto other things. There is no proof marijuana is a gateway drug. I assure you, most heavy drug users smoke cigarettes and drink. coincidence?

My opinion is that your opinion is wrong. Just because I can walk outside and get a hooker on the corner doesn't mean I get 4 or 5 and stuff them into my car and become a serial killer. You catch my drift yet?

Mary isn't the reason you do coke. Your weak will and shitty thought process are what make you do coke. People that do hard drugs don't "stumble" into them. They make a choice. Often the wrong one and most of the harder shit happens to be highly addictive...so no weed isn't nor will it ever be a "gate way" drug. And who you get your weed from is your business....if you choose to associate with drug dealing gang banging fuckers then ya fine....but I don't. My dealers can't get me an 8ball or a gram of some nice crystal meth. So I guess if you keep shitty company you are more liable to make shitty choices...you hang with trash you smell like trash.

I personally believe that there is no such logic as a gateway drug, maybe a gateway behavior pattern (if it makes any sense).

It has nothing to do with loosing interest in pot, and going higher up the scale ..

People make their own choices .. Did I try blow, or MDMA because I couldn't get weed, or because the guy stocked all 3 ? Hell no, I felt like it lolz

IS there a gateway theory in this example ? Depends on who's the reviewer

The only thing gateway theory does is make ppl think\insinuate thatpot is dangerous and what not .. Pure BS.

I agree with the above. Its your own personal choice to pick up that crack pipe and smoke up, weed has nothing to do with it. Like Kodank said, just because you can get a hold of it dosn't mean you should. This is just a tactic used to scare people out of not using the so called "gateway drug" marijuana. Its all up to the user....

I have personally started growing my own. (Not only keeps me from having to chase, but I enjoy the horticulture part of it. When I don't have my own, I go to my local dispensary. You are correct, it IS a choice that each person in that situation must make. I was simply saying that a lot of dealers have more than just Mary. It is a decision(One I made wrong, but corrected) that a lot of people must make. If you could go to a safe, legal dispensary instead of a buddy of a buddy, the new smokers would not be tempted and therefore would not have to make that decision.

I smoke all day, every day. I'm already a high-strung person, I don't need to go up. I need to come down. It took me a little while to learn that lesson because I could get so much accomplished, but it just wasn't right.

oh and if you're buying weed from a guy that sells all the other drugs. find a new dealer. Every dealer I've ever had was just a pot head with a good connect. Never ripped me off, never robbed me, always had good shit.

I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT ANYONE to think I'm against cannabis use. I personally think that more people should try it. It might open their closed minds a little. I guess my theory is more or less based on a "Guilty by association" idea, but I just think that making anyone go to someone that is offering more than cannabis is insane. Why tempt fate? There are people out there that will jump at a new experience. I was unfortunately one of them. I think that if anyone could go buy cannabis like alcohol, there would be a drop(not going to try to predict how much) in hard drug use for the simple fact that you reduce the number of people tempted.
