is it normal for the roots to be growing above the soil? these are big roots that are really thick and green, but not part of the stem. i'm growing the plants on the balcony that faces west, and they get a lot of sun. i water about every 2-3 days whenever the soil is dry lookin. i give nutrients and fertilizer about ever 2-3 waterings. but i've never seen anything in books or online about the roots growing above the soil line, help!!!

oh and btw they're about 8-10 weeks old, in veg still, haven't started them on 12/12 yet, haven't figured out how to do it on the balcony and still keep the temp low enough, as it is the temp is regularly about 30c

Just cover em up, why are you wasting so much space in that container? It actually looks like soil was removed and the plant kept growing roots where it used to be covered.

that soil looks really bad IMO :spew: see how its pulling away from the sides! need to add perlite and some peat or something to it......i would suggest re potting it into some better soil and cover the roots up....if you want, you can add really good soil to the top, to at least 1" from the top.....but i would just replace that soil

Peace
