Is it possible for scrog to reduce yeild?

What' up RIU? I have a question for experienced scroggers. Is it possible for a scrog to reduce or hinder yield if it was placed above the canopy 1 week prior to flowering? I know that ideally you want it around 18" above the base of the stem and to let the plants form a canopy before you induce flowering. I grow in a 8 site ucrdwc under 2 1000 watt hps. Im one week into flowering. The scrogs 5' x 5' covering 4 monsters that were vegged for 75 days. I lowered the scrog far as I could. I feel that it could be useful for bud support. Would it be better to remove the scrog and use stakes to support the buds, or to leave the scrog in place?

The ideal distance from the base depends a lot on how large the plants are and their structure, there's not one ideal amount of inches like that 18. Also, the eventual canopy is formed after the switch to 12/12 when everything streches out. Anyway, hard to give advice without a picture. If it's just bud support you want a stakes or few strings rather than a whole net/screen coule be sufficient. A scrog is more to spread out the canopy (also during the first half or so of the transition period).

Said as it should be...on another note to answer your simple question with a simple answer yes you can reduce yield from scrogging if its done wrong and end up putting alot of bud sites under the screen and light, but done correctly it will always improve yield as far as I have ever seen...

Thanks, for the replies guys! When I researching the topic I came across the 18" from the base on growweedeasy.com or hightimes mag. I can't remember which one. But I'm pretty sure they had shorter veg times as well. I'll snap some pics tonight around 8 when the lights come on. Usually in a single bucket dwc with a 45 day veg and using lst, fimming, topping I got almost 7 ounces from my single blue dream without scrogging. I'm trying to go for more this time w longer veg and either with or without the scrog. I added it late. Here's my single plant blue dream yeild from my last grow and a few other picsimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

I would keep it as it looks like it's supporting your plants nicely at the moment as they look quite tall.

Thanks for the reply neo! I was leaning that way as well. They're only 8 days into flowering, it should fill out nicely. Its difficult to add a scrog with a separate veg room and a flower room. I plan on waiting until theyre done stretching to trim the remainder of the sucker leaves/lower branches. Does anyone know when its safe to remove leaves/ branches during flowering without causing too much stress?

do it now. sooner the better. everything below the screen should get gone.

Thanks Cat! Ive been gradually removing branches and sucker leaves that look like they wont make it above the canopy. Im just afraid to stress her or stunt her from the stress. I have faith that after the stretch, some of the branches below could make it above the canopy. Tonight when the lights go on Ill removethe suckers and some of the leaves that are blocking light. When does leaf defoliation come into play? Has anyone had success with this? Usally the last 2 to 3 weeks ill remove a lot of the larger fan leaves

Stems are going to get hard to bend if you don't do it now.
Thanks for the reply! Would it still be beneficial to bend the stems under the screen this far into the stretch? Or should I use the scrog as support for the monster colas? I'm running c02. The main buds get very big w this strain and supports a must
