But yeah, I'm a hip hop head.
As am I, and always have been since I was 12 years old. Even before kind of, because I was writing poetry/lyrics even before that. Still do. I've done multiple vocal recordings, many people have used my lyrics, and I've even delved into a fair amount of recording work in the studio, and a bit of production.
My specialties lie in lyricism though. The lyrics, but also the pronunciation of syllables, the effect tone has with specific portions of a word at certain points in the bar, making words rhyme that normally don't, and especially the mastery of using double-entendres and metaphors for *other* similar linguistic trickery. Metaphors containing metaphors and such. Word trickery.
Hip-hop has always appealed to me because I was a lyricist and linguistics person before I ever heard of rap. I was young. I hated English class, but excelled at it.
First hip-hop track I ever heard was LL-Cool-J's "I'm bad", and at the same time, Run-DMC's "Raising Hell". I was completely hooked. I'm also an Eminem fan. Although strange, he's one of the best lyricists ever. If one ignores the content and focus on the delivery, trickery and outright ownership of both the language and method of delivery with an open mind, his twisting of the language is masterful.
I wish I could share some of the work that I've done myself and with/for others, but that would completely give away who I am personally.
