Is it root rot or just stained?

I'm 3 weeks into my first hydro grow and I think I may have root rot but i'm not sure. I changed the soup last night and everything was fine and when I checked on them today, the roots are all brown. They were white up until this point. I have a 42 liter system and feed with AN Micro, Grow, Bloom and B52. Two plants, Northern Lights and Fire OG. Ph was also up to 6.5 tonight and I reduced it back to 6.0. Will the nutes stain the roots or is it indeed root rot?

I don't know what hydro smells like normally but root rot would smell pretty bad, and with the roots exposed like that I would think you'd notice.

That looks like root rot. Are you checking pH and EC/PPM daily? What is the temperature of the solution?

Ph rises .0-.5 on a daily basis. I always correct to keep around 5.8 to 6.0 with ph down. The solution is kept at 67-68*. Room temp stays between 68-74*. EC/PPM seems to remain about the same through the week. I've been wondering why it doesn't decrease as the plants take in the nutes. I've been flushing and changing solution on a weekly basis.

Not decreasing the EC? Is the water level dropping? The unstable pH is indicative of root problems.

Throw some hydroguard in to be safe. Also if you can leave an inch gap between the bottom of the net pots and the water that helps. Root usually starts within the net pot not below It. pH drops.

Take the plant out and gently slip the roots between =two fingers. If they slide intact then no, but if they break off then yes

I have about an inch gap under the net pot. Hydrogaurd is on order, be here thursday. Roots look better today. See below.

They do appear intact and have cleared up a lot today, see below.

For whatever reason I have been chasing this right from the beginning of the grow, but the fluctuation is minimal and easy to adjust daily.
