My plants are about 2ft tall, stems and branches are really thick. Its been about 4 and a half weeks in veg, but I'm thinking about the height. They say it's possible to double in height, and the way these are growing, I'm a little worried. Should I switch to flower now? Any input is appreciated, this is my first grow.

Also, I read to defoliate going into flower, it's going to let more air and light in, when's the best time to do that? Going into flower, or give it a week or two in flowering to adjust first?

Your ladies look great! If they're photo's don't forget to take cuts before the flip incase you love something you flowered.
Personally looking at your pictures I would spread branches out some and defoliate. From there update a picture. The canopy appears to be dense. I like to fill in the "area" I'm using for max light coverage/yields by spreading branches wide as I can.

Yes flip them....They will at least double in height!!

You could and should remove some of the lower branches that won't get much light, and let the plant put it's strength into the upper buds. It's called loli-popping. It makes trimming much easier because you won't have all that scruffy undeveloped bottom buds that take a lifetime to trim. Those lower cuttings can be used to make clones too. I personally do NOT defoliate any upper fan leaves....But that is highly debated. The way I see it, they are there for a reason! You don't see tomato growers, or any other plants, defoliating!!

You should do any lolipopping or defoliating in the first 2 weeks from flipping lights....If you are going to make clones out of the cuttings, the first week is better.
