Is my plant nitrogen toxic

Honestly, I don't flush in the classic sense, either; I just bring my nutrient strength down below EC 1.0 for the last few days or a week. Green leaves 'til chop, lots of frost and great flavor!
Accomplished the same goal of giving the plants adequate time to use any excess build up from the root zone

Right- and since EC doesn't fall to zero, it doesn't screw with the root's osmotic pressure requirements or starve the plant. I get much better results this way than when I dumped and flushed with fresh water.

DISCLAIMER; I'm talking about SWC, DWC and RDWC only, organics/coco/soil grows are not the same and I'm making no representations about my approach being good or bad for those substrates.

Agreed. With hydroponics there isnt anywhere for media to sponge up nutrients so unless you're running something crazy like 5.0 ec there is very little chance of build up on the media to the point it needs to be flushed

that being said I still flush my DWC for 48-72 hours with Florakleen as I run Floanova which is absurdly thick and i have 1.75 gallons of hydroton per 2 gallon bucket (more hydroton then water in my system) so it is just precautionary but probably not entirely necessary. Better safe then sorry imo

With all that hydroton you are probably doing the right thing.

I use 8" netpot bucket lids and they don't see any water at all in RDWC, only while the girls are growing roots in ebb n flood tables before moving. Also, I use dry nutrient salts from Hydrogardens.com for lots of very good reasons, not least of which is that I know exactly what's in it- and what ISN'T.

Thus, my 'flush' really only amounts to a gradual dilution of nutrients through the last couple of weeks of bloom.
