Is Ocean forest to strong for new seedlings/sprouts?

Could some one answer for me, when you drop the seed into the soil do you get the area dark, like you do for the paper towel tech?? Also can you start the seed in rapid rooter or is it not needed.

Thanks

I drop them in a 16oz solo cup with soil, moistened all the way thru. Bury the seed loosely between 1/4-1/2" at the most. Then I place the cup under my flourescents that are on a timer, 18h on/6h off. The light helps keep the soil warm and when they sprout the light is there working for them. That way they don't stretch for the light and get too thin and weak if you aren't there to turn the light on when they need it. Darkness doesn't matter because the seed is under the soil where it is dark regardless of the light being on.

That makes sense, Thanks. How far do you keep the light from the Solo cups? I'm going to give this a shot opposed to the paper towel trick.

I use 4ft 32W t8's in shop light fixtures with chrome plated refectors that I got at home depot. I start off with the bulbs about 3 inches from the top of the soil.

one thing I forgot to mention. If you use the solo cups like I do, make sure you drill or poke some holes in the bottoms for drainage.
