Is the best advice really to dim my new $2000 light down in veg?

Let me start out with, "I am not a new grower".
It is not my temp, it is not my VPD, I have balanced nutes and my PH is fine.
My vent fans and circulation fans are blowing strong.
I have a quest Dehumidifier.
I grow in coco DTW and I get plenty of runoff.

So I have an HLG 650 scorpion diablo with the added red.
It puts out a ton of PAR.
I am having issues in veg.
Plants just don't look healthy.

The advice I was given by a very seasoned grower is to dim down the light or raise it up.
I am feeding plenty of food between 500-900 ppm jacks 3-2-1.

Then another science buddy of mine provided studies that showed a well established plant with a large enough root system can handle a shit load of photons if fed properly.
Up to 2000 par on the extreme end of things.
I am just under 1000 par according to my Appogee meter.

My question is do I really have to lower the PAR by raising or dimming the light?
Or is it at all possible this could just be a nutrient availability issue I am dealing with.
If I raise or dim the light, all the problems just magically disappear.

I just think there is a better solution to my problem then giving up valuable light.
What does roll it up have to say?
Does anyone else have an issue with intense LED light in veg?

They can only take so much light, then they stress. When I first built my led I had a hell of time.
Bleached all my plants. Figured out I over built and can only use 70% of what's available for flower and 50% for veg.
So yeah, you need to dim. They're more efficient on lower power anyway.

With only have read your title I would respond with, "Should a 1000+HP high performance race car be pedal to the floor driving through a densely populated neighborhood?"

I veg with either a Gavita 1700e, or a 1000w Hortilux HID at 24 inches and have no problems, but I have alot of fresh air flow.

My theory is they get blasted outside from seedling on, especially at the equator, and add in high altitude.

But as has been stated. One has to have adequate CO2 or air flow, or the plants will suffer. Ive never bleached a plant with a 1000w HID, or 645w Gavita 1700e. Ive been using 1000w HID since 1977 from seedlings on, in a 4 x 4 area. But Ive always had good fresh air flow.

I flower with HID and Temps get around 84f max at 20 inches. I also mostly grow trees in 20 gallons of Promix BX.

I run my growers choice ROI 720 2 feet from canopy @ 50% power in veg if that says anything.. That is with co2 supplementation, normally you can push them harder with added co2.. LED are extremely intense and the highest setting on most fixtures is for bloom or getting more footprint and raising the light real high.

2000$ light? Is it a Fohse or what, only light's I've seen for that much bread. BTW if your pushing them that hard 1000 ppfd in veg, WOW! I'm glad you wernt aroynd me in the 90s because with that pedal to the metal practice you'd never lived to see Y2K with all the snow we were plowing down that lonely highway of mirror's.

This mentality makes me chuckle. "I spent good money on this light I'm gonna damn well use it all whether my plants like it or not!!"

What DLI are you going for? I am vegging (day 28 ) dimmed to 500 umol, which, at 18 hours "on", is 32 mol/day DLI. Plant loves it.

reared four strains (four plants) from seed under fluorescent, then when they hit the flower tent with led on full blast it was plain to see the damage after less than 48 hours

the healthiest plant going in recovered the least, and the plant that had the worst initial reaction bounced back and outgrew everything and was super healthy

i don't think any of them would have recovered if not for the dimmer which is still set at 1/3 the dial

the most affected are still getting their green back and will yeild low but at least everything is budding nicely
