What are your thoughts on this old adage? Is the customer always right? Should you bend to their will? Does the squeaky wheel get the grease? Or does it get replaced? I have kinda found that most customers (see people) nowadays are pretty fucking dumb and have a serious self-entitlement complex. I have one customer who was supposed to have an open house this Saturday. But then changed it to tomorrow and wants me to be there first thing tomorrow morning. I said yes because I'm too nice for my own good but had I said no, would I have been in the wrong? I don't think so. Now I got to juggle a bunch of shit. So what do you think?

certainly a lot of customer requests are thoughtless. if you lived in a bubble with just that individual you could get away with setting-them-straight with a knuckle sammy and bitch session.

if you're in business doing any trade, reputation is everything. even if you are in the right, and decide to give someone a hard time, you will likely end up being perceived as an asshat.

do something right, a few people will hear about it.
do something -perceived- as wrong, 100 people will find out. working with a difficult persons requests, is a form of preemptive damage control even if you don't seem to directly benefit from it.

Fuck em'. I was reported to the head office for being "rude" to some old stupid fucking cunt bitch, she wanted me to start opening boxes of freight so she could see what was in them..... While I was unloading a 700+ piece truck by myself in the rain, I told her nicely that I was very busy (because the freight I was unloading as fast as I could go wasn't enough of an indication) and she asked again with this blank look on her face.

So I tell her again nicely and point to the freight coming down the shoot 20 boxes at a time, she asked again with the same stupid as fuck, nobody's home look on her face.

The truck drivers throwing the freight yell about the line not moving and I tell her I have to get back to work and she asks me to open the boxes again. So I go back to the unloading area and shut and lock the door on her, then my manager comes by and yells at me for like 20 min while I'm still unloading.

I have hundreds of stories about people like that. Everyone is sooo damn entitled nowadays and if you don't play ball they get all butthurt.

It depends on what type business your in , if its a small business that advertises in the phone book & relys on word of mouth to gain customer base then yes they are allways right , nearly to the point you loose money fucking with them , a pissy pants $500 customer thinks they own your ass & expect 5 star treatment plus freebies .

If you have a customer base thats solid & dont rely on phone book & word of mouth then customers pay extra for any changes in the contract , or rescheduling the execution of the contract start date .

You should draw up new contracts spelling out exactly how much rescheduling fee's are .

Here is a perfect example of the 'customer is always right'.

My bf saw the president of our block in the supermarket arguing that he'd been given 20cents instead of a 1euro coin. He'd alreafy left and NOT checked his change so technically it's his fault now. The cashier wasn't happy but she DID give him back the 1 euro!!

I'm going to try that later with 10 and 20 € notes.....

If I come in with a pleasant demeanor I expect the same in return. Thats all I want no attitude no lip just friendly service. If you can't provide that you're in the wrong line of work !

Often a big difference between an employee approach to consumer service versus an owner or manager. If you're an employee you may not care unless your job or salary is at stake. I don't expect much from clerks these days.

As a small business owner I'm here to say that a lot of customers are often very wrong. But to a point you have to oblige to keep the money coming in. Although I have told a few old ladies that they were just too much to handle and I could no longer take care of their needs.

Just wish they'd realize I walk in to a few stores they just keep asking me if I need help like I'm going to steal or some shit it's like I need help I'll fucking ask. But I know that trick they told me to do that to people at K-mart that looked like they where going to steal I never asked anyone.

Shit pisses me off I haven't stole from a store since I was 15 and they treat me like I'm going to steal meanwhile they completely ignore the douche bags that actually need help just to judge me by the way I look yet some of the douchy looking fools are stealing like a bastard one guys telling me all about his scam of putting shit under his cart and playing dumb meanwhile I'm being watched like a bastard fuck them I hope they love their minimum wage. :bigjoint:

So, "do you need help" is code for please don't steal anything? Blunt, you may just be wondering around stoned and lookin like you may benefit from help. I wouldn't read too much into that man. hate kmart but perhaps not it's employees. Lol
