It's not the horticultural crap that matters, it's that they list PPF of their other cobs to compare. Maybe they were great, who knows, but with logic like A-PPF, I'm not so sure.

makes sense on the 90s look how they hit 630-680 so hard

all the 80 cri 3500s (both citi and cree) are blowing their wad between 580 and 630

It stays pretty cool no matter what u give between 5-12 volts with 50 watt ledchip. Weight is almost 700g. Maybe 70-80 watts is max what i would give them.

That looks like it wouldn't work without a fan, and with a fan would be overkill...so maybe?
Then maybe 700ma more spread better effi and lesser cooling.

Hampster you mean with ore withouth fan ? Have you worked with these heatsink ? 1050 = 36w 700ma= 24.4w so not 50watt

It needs a fan because of the design. It will act like a solid hunk of metal without some airflow. You'll notice passive heatsinks have wide fin spacing, CPU coolers are much more tightly packed. Natural convection stops happening with close spacing.

Before I make my decision to purchase can you confirm whether the 120w dissipation is active (with fan) or passive. My intention is to use this heatsink to cool passively, without the use of fans,

Hello,
the heatsink is passive. And it also fit only in the mentioned HP models like DL380 G5 and DL 385 G2 / G5. The heatsink is own-production from HP. It can not be used universally.

I think you're forgetting the 6 2" fans mounted to the front/back of that server case (and the power supply fan) that create a dedicated channel of airflow through the case and over the heatsink so it's not really the same as getting hit once every 10 seconds by an oscillating fan.
I know of no HP server (standalone/rackmount/blade) that doesn't sound like a 747 starting up due to fans.

That said, you could mount the heatsinks in a 5" rail with a fan on one end and simulate that type of design for airflow over multiple sinks and keep them well cooled.

Would your mind change if the 1812 was $15-16? It's 98-99% of the 1818 below 50W, and destroys the 1212 above that. I'd say it's worth an extra $3, personally.

Heck, I'd happily replace my 1818s with them at the 700ma I run. There's only 2lm/W difference.
