Is this bud rot on dried flower?

A friend of mine gave me this little canister with some of his wife’s homegrown. It all looks a little janky, but are the brown buds infected with bud rot? He wanted some feedback, but I don’t even want to open the canister with fear of introducing unwanted agents into my home (grow tent downstairs!).

Anyway, can any one tell from these shots? Bud rot? Or just poorly dried weed? I opened and it doesn’t smell horrible. Not kind, but not rotten smelling. I don’t want to be rude to my friends, though they want some honest feedback too. Don’t want to smoke fungi either. Thanks.

If you are suspect I'd ask to check out their grow area. But this isn't realy relevant, what's up with people from Vermont not really trimming their weed?

Yuck. Looks dangerous. It would be more rude to let your friends smoke that shit too.
But really it’s hard to say from your pics. Open the jar, crack the suspects open and check, if you see “wafting” powder stuff float away then it’s definitely mold. Or usually you ca visually see mold inside the bud. Sometimes brown sometimes whitish. Or somewhere in between.

I would not open that in any building that my grow was in or near my close and I certainly wouldn't inhale it! Tell him it looks like bud rot and help his wife get her grow under control and educate them about bud rot. Best of luck on that.

Knowing the area I'd bet they are growing either outside and didn't pull soon enough OR growing in a damp basement with no environmental controls, low heat etc etc, OR drying without a dehumidifier. Or any combo of those 3.

Yes, this was outdoor last summer. I really don’t know anything about the grow or dry conditions.

Cool. I’ve offered to share what I know, which is limited but could be helpful. They have a big piece of land with some nice spots to plant. I told him last night that I was worried about the brown buds.

Be honest to them man, that is moldy contaminated weed that could kill someone.
I definitely wouldn't care about hurting someone's feelings when they're risking people's lives and asking for feedback.

Not going to lie that bud looks like rotten outdoor to me. I'm very spoiled though. Do they trim their weed?
