Is this good

My friend gave me this 1000 watt metal halide bulb in box. It works but is this a new bulb do they all have that little cloudy back going on.

The bulbs are usually test fired, so look a little bit burned straight from the box.

Either way, they aren't too expensive, I would just get a new one if it was me.

Should always have a spare backup bulb anyway..

Thanks yea to replace bulbs looks like 30each for 1000watt that's a little high for me considering I paid 50 bucks for ballast hood and bulb does anyone know good place or deal on 1000watthps bulb s52. Or mh100wattm47

Dude, buy a new bulb. The output if lumens decreases the longer the lamp is burned. 30 bucks for everything? You bought a lighting system that was replaced for a reason. Do yourself 1 favor, get a new bulb. Going effectively and efficiently costs money, not peanuts, frogs or chickens.

Just run it then.

If it works it works, even if it's missing 25% or more of the output, which it probably is.

After a grow or 2 they all have considerable loss of lumens per watt.

Even noticeable by eye, when side by side with a brand new bulb.

Should get a new one though, when you can..

You're gonna be losing more than $30 in electricity thats putting out extra heat instead of light, and risking having to run to the hardware store and paying 60 + tax if it the bulb craps out mid flower.

It's all a gamble anyway right? ;)

If you're just running it for veg, run her till she dies. 1000w of metal halide is gonna work for veg at any efficiency. If you are running her in flower, I wouldn't run MH at all wrong spectrum.

I seen guys run MH from start to finish by choice and have had good results....personally I would prefer HPS for flower but MH will work

Absolutely MH will work but the spectrum of HPS or a full spectrum led will work better. Just my two cents.
