Is this lighting overkill?

I'm currently running a grow space that is 19" x 25" x 48" , with a 400W MH and 400W HPS running both, is there such thing as lighting overkill? Currently average temps are 78f, avg. RH 40 with lights on, avg 70f, avg RH 55 lights off.

I was thinking about switching to 12/12 July 1st due to space restrictions and my little garden is turning into a sog.

Would it be more beneficial to use both 400w's to flower with? or just the 400w HPS over the canopy?

Thanks ! + rep ~ :peace::peace:

One 400W HPS would be sufficient if you ask me. Quite remarkable that you don't have heat issues now running both. Either way, you're wasting electricity. About 50W per square foot of grow space is usually plenty of light.

I am yet to personaly see too much light and im no stanger to big wattages. Aslong as you can control the heat then all will be fine. Its usually better to add the extra light when you go in to 12/12.

With both running in such a tight space I can keep my temps to ~78F (+/- 2F) with both lights on. I've got a crapload of air movement through there and overkill for exhaust.

So it would be more beneficial to just finish the last week of vegging with the 400W MH (going 12 / 12 july 1st for space reasons) and when I switch to the 400W HPS to flower just leave the MH in there for the extra light ? (does blue spectrum help durring flowering at all?)

Thats what I would do and yes the MH will help during the flowering aswell.
