I was kind of planning on letting her go for 8-10 weeks in veg to let my background girls grow up a little.

Most people top indoor to fill a tent. It can increase your yield. 8-10 weeks is fine. Just make sure you have the headspace because it'll stretch. Some as much as 100%. I have one that stretches 2-300%, but it's an outdoor girl so it doesn't matter much.

It's knuckled at the split, so that tells me that something happened. A knuckle happens when the plant needs to heal an injury. You see it often with branches that are supercropped, and in cases where the stalked was cracked. I suspect your young stalk was cracked enough to have the plant shoot another branch, and the damage healed over. It doesn't happen often like that, but you'd be surprised what a weed plant will do to ensure it's survival. But the stalk was definitely damaged at one point.

Your colas will be a little shorter, but you'll have two. :)

This forum is a lot of the same posts every day. It gets cluttered with threads that are a complete rehash of the same questions and devolve into chaos between two members fighting about something unrelated to the topic. No one learns anything new.

Understood. Some noobs are just lazy and want a magic bullet.

I try to be a little verbose in my answers knowing it reads like drivel to people who already know. When I see a question that gives me the impression they are completely new I often suggest to visit https://www.growweedeasy.com/basics and start reading. Otherwise it's like talking to your aunt on the phone trying to get her to go to Google.
 
In my years of experience I have had a number of experiences with multiple stalks but no cuts. It usually seems to stem from damage at one stage or another. Funky leaf growth and formation, similar to the early stage pictures you posted, is a usual symptom. I have seen them essentially fim all on they're own.
Last grow I had one plant that had 5 tops with no topping but I did have a piece of plastic fall on the plant early on. Best I can figure is it pinched the plant in a way and I didn't notice till it seemed to stall a little and then get strange growth resulting in 5 tops.
