Is this 150w HPS too close to the plants? What would the ideal height above the plants for a light this size?

put your hand above your plants and see how it feels, pretty good gauge, shouldnt feel too hot, simple enough

Keep in mind your body is at 98.6 degrees... if you feel warmth that means the temp is above your body temperature =/ ...just like testing babys formula on your wrist... if it feels warm its too hot for the baby... you shouldnt feel any heat on your canopy or its too close.
