i have a homegrown hydroponics ballast and it says that it can do either hps or metal halide is this true do these things even exist. If so do i have to open the thing and change wiring or could i just use either bulb. on the side it says

hps 250,400,600,1000 either way if it does this sucker must have been pricey i found it in my basement when i moved in.
