Is UVB worth it?

Hope all is well with everyone. Hope you all are enjoying the new year.

I posted pics of my grow in my pictures & albums, and like most people I want to make sure I have enough CFL lumens to get some hearty buds.

My current setup is in a small coat closet 38''L x 32''W. I'm hanging a Multi spectrum CFL light bank it hosts (1) 105 Watt 3000K, (1) 105 Watt 4100K, and (1) 105 Watt 5000K.

I'm thinking about purchasing one or two .10 UVB CFL bulbs and one or two CFL 6500K bulbs. I'm Planning to mount them using clamp lighting.

If you have any Recommendations please let me know.

I'll be switching 12/12 possibly by the end of this month. I want to try and get as many trichomes and bud sites as possible using CFLs, and or UVB.

Has anyone had any luck with UVB? Does it make a difference?

Any input would help, but DO NOT TELL ME TO USE a DIFFERENT LIGHT SOURCE ie...HPS.

Thanks,

P

I flowered using a UVB bulb this grow and I notice no increase in the potency of the buds. I also found out that UVB can & will increase the likely hood of bud mold, which happened to the top portion of one cola that was nearest to the bulb. The mold grew from the inside out, so I wasn't able to see it until it was too late. I lost about 5" total on that cola.

I've used two of the UV bulbs in combination with 350 W of CFL, as well as 450 W of CFL without.
The UV grow seemed to make no difference in potency and less product.
Skip them and get more CFLs.

Thank you ALL for your input so far. I kinda figured UVB might be a fallacy. Who knows though for sure??

I"ll invest in more CFLs. I do think that's the safe way to go.

i've read somewhere that uvb will make a difference in resin content.

I'lll try and find the info, but from what I recall, introduction of UVB does positively increase the size of our beloved resin glands. The plants produce the glands to shield from the effects of uvb, in addition to pest control, and weather fluctuations.

The guy had posted in his journal, some bad effects of having the UVB on 12/12, in his later experiments, he proved that gradually increasing the duration of the light, from a couple minutes, up to a 4 hour a day maximum, Did in fact increase the resin content on the buds closest to the light. he had a SOG set-up, in wich one corner had the Reptile UVB oriented vertically. as I recall, the actual sides of the buds exposed to UVB had noticabley greater resin content than the other, unexposed sides

I posting two times, but I also had some other points to make.

Visable resin content is a better way of determining whether or not the UVB worked, Not just somones percieved potency. As you all should know, breaking up, grinding, touching, rubbing, holding, bagging, unbagging, packing (to smoke) will knock a great bit of crystal off ot the buds. also, when comparing potency, you'd have to have the same buds side by side, with clean glass and a magnifying glass(solar puffing) to truly examine and appreciate the differences.

On California lightworks website, which is a up and coming l.e.d. grow light producer, the larger 2 SolarStorm model's use two Built-in T8 Fluorescent lights. They say " UVB: For the finishing phase to deliver a further boost in crop potency. "

I use 68 watt cfl i get them from home depot for $15 and buy the socket for it about 6 or 7 bucks there might be a cheaper socket for the bulbs but i like the one i buy it comes with a adjustable clamp that makes hanging it off anything easy Hope this helps

If you are trying to approximate Light from the sun with various Kelvin rated bulbs, there should already be a small amount of UVB in your spectrum, However, Back in my days growing in soil, I experimented with this also, and found no significant difference between buds flowered under uvb and those without, Basicly, If you are growing a Prize plant for something like the cannabis cup then I might add the UVB for presentation but smoke wise, Standard CFLs will give you more of the results you are looking for.
