Is weed actually bad for you?

Hey Rollitup,

I have been a good amount of research on the actualy effects of cannabis. I remember in my senior year of high school my physiology professor did a month long section on drugs and the effect on the body and he concluded that cannabis did NOT have any negative effects,

but then there are articles like this,
http://www.illpumpyouup.com/articles/marijuana-and-bodybuilding.htm

Is this article propaganda to deter athletes from smoking or vaporizing cannabis? Is it just propaganda, or is there some truth to the article.

speak your mind please

peace

This are the reasons the article is not trustworthy.
1- It has absolutely no reference to stable neither important known research institutions.
2- It's on a bodybuilding webpage (come on), bodybuilding isnt that healthy at all.
3- Most comercially available susbtances have gone through extensive, continous and serious testing. Marijuana is in the limbo of pharmacology because of the few studies ran on it. And also there are some studies that proof a high medical value for Marijuana, as well as its bening nature.
Check out the "LaGuardia Commitee", back in 1939.

yeah i agree with logges, that particular article is total balls.

there's never been enough research done or genuine reliable studies conducted to prove that weed actually is particularly good or bad for humans in the short or long term. especially not by reputable sources. although excessive use of skunk has been linked to depression and some other mild mental illnesses.

most sources that say it's actually bad are either propaganda or just plain ignorance.
most sources that say it's actually good for humans are biased.

it's certainly very harmful to mice, and they should not use it.

I would like to point out some athletes who have been caught using pot... off the top of my head...

Lincecum - 2 time Cy Young Winner in his first 2 full seasons in MLB.
Michael Phelps - We all know what he's done.
Josh Howard - Plays on the Mavs... been to the all-star game a few times.
Ricky Williams - Won a Heismann.
Randy Moss - Pretty sure most people know him.
Bob Marley - One thing people don't know about him is he was a phenomenal soccer player, who probably could have played in the Olympics.

I'd be willing to bet a good percentage of athletes smoke in the offseason as well... maybe even he regular season for some.

Also, most of their evidence is from the 70s and 80s... not exactly up to date or unbiased.

This... which can easily be dodged with a vape. A bong/bubbler probably helps as well.
and with cooking...make cannabutter and you dont have to inhale anything :D lol

i'd say the only potentially harmful thing pot can do is a) hurt your lungs from smoking. but i cant see it being as big a deal as some people think. otherwise more people would be seriously ill and/or dying from cannabis use, and they dont. and b) if you're predisposed to any form of psychosis, ex schizophrenia, its not recommended that you use cannabis. it can provoke the illness...its not going to give an otherwise mentally "normal" person psychosis, but if you are prone to schizophrenia, then pot can be a catalyst in the manifestation of psychosis.

i think that if a person is predisposed to schizophrenia they'd know about it. a doctor would likely have noticed. maybe its something thats been in family history, or maybe they've exhibited other signs of a mental health issue that could lead to schizophrenia...ie hallucinations and major paranoia, etc.

I dont think this applys to everyone, I have a friend with schizophrenia and weed actually helps calm him down and relax him.

I personally think that overall weed effects everyone differently. :leaf:
