iso hash from 4 oz's of stems??

yup i got 4 OZ's of diff strains of stems. all from quality pot, but have no leaf matter/bud to run with them. i made iso hash not to long ago, but from stems leaf matter and airy/scraggly buds. my question is can i pull something from just the stems?? or am i wasting my time?? :joint: P&P

yup yup, you can def pull something,

i myself have about an oz im gonna rinse,

my suggestions,

freeze stems in mason jar
freeze 99% iso or better

once all frozen, pour iso over stems, shake for about 30 seconds, then filter, strain into pyrex

, place breathable cloth over pyrex, and let that evap for a few days under some natural -(ish) warm heat, (not over 110F)

should be able to scrape up something good,


post process and results!

yupppp you can pull some really good oil with just stems. If you look at the ISO topic a little down on the concentrate section (this is why we need a sticky)anyways I have some pics of my oil made with stems.

thanks guys! i always freeze my product im going to run, along with my iso. i freeze and strain thru a metal coffee filter, and then a double filter of paper coffee filters. works great. thanks for the feedback guys!

You can pull oil from anything with trichomes on it, which stems usually do.

It will less tasty, and more sedative than bud oil, as the trichomes tend to be more mature on the stems, than the leaves and buds.

When making concentrates it's all about the starting material. That will determine the quality of finished product just remember that. I haven't personally tried with just stems but I see no reason you couldn't pull SOMETHING out of them.

Oh forgot to mention, I did run some very old material when I was first starting out and it was a great thing to use as a learning experience when not using primo nug so you don't waste it.

Lots of different ways!

When using alcohol, we prefer quick washes to long ethanol soaks, to minimize chlorophyll pickup. We also prefer 190 proof for that task, vis a vis 80 proof vodka, to minimize water content.

Wouldnt 80% be good for green dragon tincture....leave like a half oz in a mason jar with just enough vodka to cover an inch above mj and shake once a day for 60 days strain and do drops on tongue?

Yup sounds like he is thinking of the glycerin tincture. I was thinking of trying that method but i'm not really sure how potent it would be. edibles don't really do much to me.

Glycerine holds 30% of its volume in cannabinoids, ethanol 70%

I don't care much for edibles either. Never actually tried a glycerine tincture. That's the one used sublingually just so ya know.

I made a glycerine tincture with an oz and half of bud to a maso jar of vegetable glycerine in a crock pot on low for 3 days strain and cool ...it was not potent at all...ive heard of a tincture that is just putting weed in high proof alcohol and letting it sit for 60 days shaking it every day for a few minutes then strain it and u can do a few drops under your tongue and its supposed to get you high? Ever heard thia

No I haven't .. ethanol similar to isopropanol will dissolve the trichome heads readily. Making a quick wash all that is necessary. A longer soak will only succeed in extracting chlorophyll and nastiness. It might be most efficient but I wouldn't want to be the one to drink it

Glycerine takes forever to absorb the cannabinoids and is what you most often associate with drops under the tongue..

the smoke from the stem oil is beyond good. nice and melty. 30 second shake, triple filtered, 12 hour evap. rinsed 14 grams of stems and got back just under 2 grams of goodness. pretty cool considering i was gonna trash it.

Yea I keep all my stems. Higher in cbds so nice and sedative.. I fill a mason jar then run em like regular material..most of the lighter terps don't remain unfortunately

I do the same as well, I actually like the stems a lot. I tend to shake them a taddd bit longer. Still makes strong delicious oil.

Yea, especially on a frosty plant that really packs it even on the stems, they don't seem to give off a lot if chlorophyll..
