Iso \

I love using 99%, its great, but I made some good batches with 91% too. But that is some nice color for a one minute wash.. Did you swirl more so than agitate? I gotta try running a batch soon.

Very nice looking batchs Guz! It really makes me want to try to vac mine and see what happens.

I guess I should have asked the proof on the etoh. All that is available to me is 151.

nice pics guz. Really good color from both the etoh and the iso.. I myself really need to take to this no heat thing. A few degrees can make a huge difference. Me personally the only reason I ever use heat is because I prefer a specific consistency. I hate when my oil is a mess and hard to work with! I have been busy blasting lately as to why I have not been posting alot but I for sure with be trying etoh after seeing some of this. But like war said..I love using 99 iso myself.

I like 99 iso cause you don't need to purge to get a good product where with BHO it always taste funny but I've never had purged bho or any product from a "real" oil maker I'm in Ontario and where I live it seems we are way behind in BHO and OIL products but I'm trying to change that by following all you good folks thanks for the info

I feel your pain,I too only have that available to me but you can order the 190 proof online and have it shipped. 151 is slightly higher then 75% so kinda to low for extracting but you never know I suppose,I would just stick to ISO at that point.

Yup exactly, if I don't apply any heat it comes out kinda taffy like, great for dabs but hard to handle. I like to apply some heat to get that shatter like quality where I can hold it without a problem. You still need to explain how to get budder and honeycomb..lol

Did not take any weight measurements war.. pretty small return. I would guess around 2-3 grams from 1.5 oz in.. got the 2nd rinse on evap. 99iso. I'll try and get a weight.

So I did a fairly large run a couple nights ago, I used the whole plant as always straight from harvest to the freezer so I don't know weight or anything. But I decided to do the whole run in the freezer, normally i filter in the freezer and then put in my drying/cure room at 65 degrees to evap. And I get an amazing shatter. But when I took it out the freezer and everything was purged it looked like a bunch of kief. Its dry, not sticky. I have like 7 grams of sand...I'm loving it though, I don't have to heat it to get a dab its great. Its got all the advantages (in my opinion) of wax being easy to handle,store, and smoke but its tasty and burns better because its lose powder.....just thought I'd share. I'm gonna try it a few more times to replicate at different temps, I love it,non sticky super fine powder ......and im high

i have gotten consistencies like this myself and it is great!! I don't understand why it does not want to stick to itself though because it can't be impurities or contaminants hindering the trics to stick together. What do you think Qwizo? maybe just the dry state that it is?? Anyway I actually have left overs of some that I enjoyed so much that did not want to finish it all..but if you get a chance would love to see some pics.

I just ran it and haven't had time to analyze it yet., will do when I'm off work.. I do believe this is the powder on the sides of the dish that occasionally appears during a standard iso evap... I've always seen it occur when evaporating quickly at cool temps. I first thought it had something to do with the iso and water forming an azeotrope, this occurs on the edges when evaporating iso faster than the water like using a fan vs open evap.. but now I'm not so sure. This run I was left with only powder, you can compact it and cake it up but it doesn't stick unless heated significantly and it melts and turns to my normal hash oil.. I'm not sure what's causing this. Like I said I'll try and replicate at a few different environments to see what caused this.. I find its consistency very intriguing to say the least......I didn't winterize and I did use a micron syringe....we shall see what's up with it

Its a solid and powder, white in color, melts on your fingertip to light gold....I only grow landrace sativas and with the racy high in combination with its coke like feel and looks. Its going to be a big hit in my area(I don't sell my stuff though, just give it to friends and fam)....I'm already trying to come up with crazy names involving cocaine or crack derivatives

Oh and I've been having an influx of pic requests lately so.. I'm gonna try to do it soon. I haven't been able to put up pics for a couple months now. And have never gotten around to creating a thingy to upload...but I shall get around to it eventually

Yea man thanks for pointing that out. I do my extractions in a walk in freezer. Naturally being a chemist I am aware of and do take all necessary precautions. Though it should be noted iso is considerably less dangerous than butane

Being here in Ontario (assuming you mean the province in Canada), I'm having the same experience. Everything I can find in my area has an off-taste and very rarely can you find BHO here, which has led me to experiment in making my own. I started with butane extraction in an older plastic Honeybee extraction tube, and could never get a good product, knowing nothing about what I was doing. Then a friend of mine explained (very poorly) how I could do a cheaper extraction and get just as much with ISO. So came my first (horrible) batch of ISO oil. It was dark green, runny as all hell, and just awful tasting, so I gave up.

Then a couple months ago I came across some posts on RIU that completely changed my thinking on oil. So I picked up some 99% ISO, pulled out my bag of stems and trim and little buds, and proceeded to make some really nice, tasty oil, a very nice consistency, it wouldn't stick to your fingers, if you pulled it slowly it would stretch a bit, if you pull quick it would break into pieces. I am now an oil lover.

Anyway, I'm rambling. Moral of the story, if your in an area with crappy oil around, this place (RIU) has amazing people with a lot of useful information. Don't give up on oil. It is a very nice product when done right. The people here, and the existing threads such as this one can help you make a better product that will far exceed anything available here, in taste, potency, and visual appeal. I'm on my phone, but I'll see if I can find a pic of my first good batch(after I had read as much as possible on here) and post it when I get to a computer

Thought id bump this thread, didn't like it on page 2..... so I've determined my original thoughts of the azeotrope causing crystallization (the powder sometimes formed along the edge when evapping iso) and the crystalline structure formed when doing the evap in freezing conditions are the same, I wish I knew what exactly was causing it. It forms in the azeotrope at room temp I know this for sure, repeated it many times by altering how much water is being evapped relative to the iso, once supersaturated in the freezer im kind of lost wish I retained more about all this stuff... I will be experimenting with this crystal form of hash oil for the next while ,finding it very interesting and much better smoke....hopefully I can recreate this at higher temps, crystallization can be a tricky subject...anyways.....

I agree with you qwizo been checking back hoping it would have gotten bumped haha! Anyway I wish I knew myself exactly what causes it because it really is great product to smoke and work with. So convenient compared to sappy or sticky oils. I have obtained this texture using heat before many times because I 9 out of 10 times use heat in my evap and purge but mostly just cus I am a very impatient person(something I'm working on). I will be looking more into this myself..for the rest of you that are interested in how I made budder/honeycomb I apologize for my lack help but it will be coming the next iso run I do. Like I said been busing doing other extracts but I don't want to leave you guys hanging. Possibly an explanation first than a tutorial just trying to figure out how to go about it. Hey guys I have a question. I did a run a couple weeks ago but was low quality material so I didn't expect much and that's what I got. So I didn't take any pics but I basiclly did my normal process and on the first two rinses I used heat and one came out dark and hard. Just tried a dab of it and it turned into a fireball inside the dome! I evaped and purged as I always have with heat before and this has not happened. Anyone know if this stuff has unpurged iso maybe. Tasted weird/bad but the fireball probably didnt help either

Sounds like it is absolutely under purged... humidity and lots of other factors play into how long it takes.

Without more info it's hard to say more than that. Melt it and do hot water baths.

If it flamed up, your nail is too hot.

If it burned erratically with a fire dance, it was probably retained water and solvent.
