i have gotten my nail red hot and have never seen a fireball come out, sound like it wasnt purged and still had solvents in it

i wouldnt dab it, just do a flame test with a lighter

ive had the same thing. I had a nice response typed up, then my laptop decided it was time for a restart for some updates.
mine wasnt due to being under purged, or the nail too hot. I somehow filled my dome with propane (yes I use a propane torch) and when I touched the dab on the nail, it made a little fire, turning my dome, and bong, and all my reclaim black with carbon from the flame
ive smoked severely under purged butane on purpose before and it didnt even flame up, despite cracking and sizzling like no tomorrow.

My rig def doesn't look like that lol but yeah it seems like something like that would be more plausible. Everything I've heard about underpurged stuff it crackles or has sparks not a flame. I put it over a hot water bath and tried to churn it with my dabber. It looks more like a golden taffy than dark black oil which it did originally. However it is still hard at room temp. Idk gunna do a flame test anyway and then try a dab

found that pic of oil, seems to be from a more recent small batch, doesnt look like i was 100% done with it yet, but this was all i could find.. was a nice taffy-like batch, pull apart slowly and it would stretch a bit, quickly and it would snap and sometimes break into several pieces.
edit: it was much more of an amber/yellow in person.. having trouble with the white balance setting on my cam..

yeah the flame test is the best... get a toke on the dabber, and give it just a 1/4 second, slow swipe with the lighter.. then back off for 3-5 seconds.. then another quick flash and observe the bubbles and the flammability of the bubbles and how violently the little fuckers are going up. small little fire that lasts under a second? cracks and explodes and pops? or absolutely nothing.. just boiling it and making it drip down the dabber?
you would be surprised at how much shit is left in the oil still after just a hot plate boil, even a 6 hour one. I thought my stuff was pretty damn well purged too but the vacuum proved otherwise.

I found that the best, most accurate coloured pics are taken with the macro setting and the flash on, in a dark dark room... even turn the lights off and face into the corner, rely on the flash and I get a perfect shot every time. natural light just doesnt do my pics justice.

Hmmm I was thinking of adding a polymer/ cyclodextrin carrier or encapsulating with a hydrophillic membrane etc. I've found several people making a racemic powder upwards of 2/3 l-thc crystallizing at room temp, I wonder if I could make a hash product suitable for insufflation ..methylated b-cyclodextrin can only hold 1mg of thc per 25mg but everyone likes a fat rail right? I'll call it thc-o-caine or something, I'll have something clever eventually
.......also been thinking about a time released thc pill, I've seen some that release over 3 weeks, that's craziness, but I'm bored and figure I'll try and make something cool... maybe I'll try and do something the average Joe can do, like a time released bees wax/lecithen formulation..I don't know , hopefully I end up with something cool and doesn't cut potency too much.........any ideas?

awesome thread!!!!!! I made a couple batched of ISO oil earlier in the year. I used a bunch of trim my 1st go, then a 1/2 of some fire. all were 10 sec soaks first pull, then 20 sec pulls second pull, then another 20 sec pull but was neon green so I tossed the 3rd pulls. everything was evapd off using a double boiler w/water being replaced after 30 mins. I just wanted to keep dbl boiler water at a constant hot temp. then purged on a griddle at 170* in pyrex dish and hot pad between griddle and pyrex to avoid over heating. the end result was awesome. but this was the 1st time ive ever smoked oil. I use it in my G-Pen and I have a small glass bubbler (kinda like a meth pipe I guess, was only 10.00 at head shop). now my oil is a really think "taffy" like consistany. I can take a pull off of it in the sealed container I have it in and I get a long huge tail. then retreats back into the container moments later (15 seconds plus). is this normal? here are some pics of the finished results. I have 6.5oz of trim from my last harvest, along with about 1z of popcorn nugs from my 3 strains. I was thinking of making more iso oil, or doing a dry ice pull, or just make some brownies for a patient of mine. or a little of each.

for sure!!! this was the first time ive tried smoking concentrates, and making them as well. the first time I smoked it, I did like 3-4 big rips and felt like I was tripping. lol was intense for a while that's for sure. now I know better and take it easy.

not bad for a first time demon. Your wash times seem to be pretty spot for getting quality. also good job on choosing to separate washes good to see someone who actually does some research on this stuff before giving it a shot and bashing its end results. I never take a third because it just is not up to par for my standards. That is why I do a 20 to 30 sec wash on my first depending on quality of nug and than a second wash done by "feel". I dont time this one, I just do what I think is best, and I get some greatt second washes! 170 for purging is too high! but, you mentioning a constant heat in your water bath is something I think is important. I always try to obtain constant temps esp while purging. If you think tat stuff is strong with a g-pen try taking a dab of it..anyway good job and if you decide to keep it up youll amaze yourself with what you could make by a little bit of trial and error. Alot of good info on here if you know what your looking for. ps pardon my grammar but its too early.
