Jack Herer + The Cheese - The Journey Continues....From Day 1 Flower

hey, thanks gingerbeer.

My ventilation is maxed out. 4" intake and a 5" extractor hooked up to an air cooled hood. I can't improve extraction/airflow anymore, wish I could. I even took off my carbon filter yesterday to improve air flow and reduce heat. It worked a bit, but not enough and I don't want be compromised by the smell of stinky buds....cos they do STINK!

I'm actually thinking of flipping my light cycle to the night time. It's not ideal for me, but I think it's the only way I can maintain a good environment during the summer months.

If I do flip the lights, then I'll give them an extended dark period of 24 hours, then bring the lights on at 10pm-10am, or maybe 12pm-12am. I currently run lights on from 10am-10pm.

These babies are in sync with my flowering room as I took the cuts on Day 1 flower, so they are in week 5 as well.

JH#5's on the left and The Cheese on the right.

I'm putting 2 of The Cheese cuts outdoors this year. Hopefully this week if I can sort my shit out, but probably next week as I have some ground work (literally) to do before I take the cuts out there.

and when I can make a bit of space in my veg cupboard I will be starting these off too....:blsmoke:

and I may stick a couple of these outdoors later in the year as well, depending on how I get on with things. Very excited about it all.

On a side note, my 'legal' garden is full of edible/harvestable crops this year as well which I am equally excited about as growing veg is a first for me. I've got it all going on and I can't wait to sample some of my other home grown products throughout the summer!

Caligrown, thanks for stopping by my friend. Much appreciated. Hopefully we can bring a bit more activity to this section of the forum. :joint:

Pretty much everything I have learnt about growing I have learnt here at RIU, (occasiaonally CC or UK420, or other growing sites) but I'm mostly loyal to this site, so really I credit my grow room to ROLLITUP......and a bit of common sense. I do not own a grow book and I will never buy one. Except maybe See More Buds, but that would only be to support our man GK and for the pretty pictures.

Anyway, thanks again for the kind words. I hope you enjoy following along!

I've been doing some maintenance on the Jack Herer today. Lots of staking, tieing and a bit of pruning here and there, not too much though. I can't quite believe how much bud there's gonna be on her though. I counted 10 main stems, all should be fat 12" colas, then there are the 'side' branches. One of the main branches is just like a whole plant all by itself. The only problem is that it is now overshaowing The Cheese a little bit, so I may have to raise it up. I've got the side lighting focused mostly on the cheese so she's doing ok for light still.

This is by fat the biggest plant I have grow/flowered since I started growing 15 months ago now...i...t's so big I can't even fit her all the camera frame! So there are LOTS of pics to enjoy! :joint:

I've not guestimated on the yield yet, but I'm starting to think about it now at this half way stage (she will take 10 weeks). I'm hoping maybe for 8oz, 1/2 a pound. Maybe this is a bit unrealistic, I don't know, I really have no idea. It's gonna be big though and I really can't wait. Got a way to go yet though, so I shouldn't get ahead of myself!

I've been doing a bit more bondage today on my Monster JH#5. She is pretty much spanning my entire grow room. I only just about have room for my Cheese.....here's another pic of her today.....

I'm can just sit in my room staring at this monster for ages.

I will have to be tieing branches up soon not down, as the buds start to fatten up they will need the support!

lots of stakes!.....

thanks very much man. I've kind of impressed myself with this JH#5......all the atteniton on my JH#5, The Cheese will be feeling left out, and she is special too. Just not in a monster way. But her buds are ROCK hard and stink so strongly. It reminds me of the smell of my Snow White actually, very potent! When I turn the pot and move the plant a bit, the most wonderful aroma fills the air! mmmmmmm lovely! :blsmoke:

Week 5 update tomorrow!

I am also going to be documenting my Summer '08 outdoor grow in this journal as well. This is my first attempt at an outdoor grow and as always, with all things growing, I'm very excited about it!

I have researched and picked out my location and it is perfect. Not only is it totally secluded in a small clearing on a south west facing hill in a big wood, but the spot is also very protected by ferns and brambles. My legs/ankles got cut to shit! My ankles got cut so bad I bled on my walking shoes. Note to self: Where the boots next time! TWAT!! But I didn't mind the pain of the brambles ripping at my legs as I was just thinking, nobody would put themselves through this for fun, so I'm sure I've got a good safe spot. But only time will really tell.

The soil in my spot is amazing. It was totally covered in dead ferns, but when I cleared an area to check the soil underneath, I could not believe what I found. Totally amazing soil! Light and fluffy and most amazingly of all....it was still moist! It hasn't rained for well over a week here and it's been very hot. So this is very encouraging! The soil is so good I will not need to take any compost out to my location, which is GREAT! It is all there and it looks/feels much better than any compost you can buy in the shops. I just need to dig holes and line them, then refill it with the beautiful dirt I dig out.

I will be following the #1 rule of growing with my outdoor setup too, don't tell anyone excpet RIU! and my very close mate and growing confident who helps me out sometimes. But apart from that, it is top secret!...and my mrs knows of course, but she knows everything and just laughed at the state of my legs as I moaned like a man when I got home!

I hope to get the plants out there next week. I will of course post pics/videos and show you my location.

Here are the babies I will be putting out to start with.....2 of my cheese cutz.....

they are pretty quick to flower so I think they stand a fairly good chance of finishing before the weather gets to cold and wet here. I want them out by the end of Sep.

If all goes well to begin with then I may stick a couple more out there in a few weeks time. There is certainly the space, so I may as well use it. I'm thinking the Black Dominia might do well out here too! :blsmoke:

Just replaced my carbon filter. Things are getting a bit stinky and the filter was end of life.......that lovely smell of ganga was escaping from my room! Whilist I love the smell, I don't really want my neighbours getting a wiff of it.......if they haven't already! So I've got a new filter now. Got a 6" one this time so it can take a bit more airflow through it to help with the summer heat. It's gone a bit cooler again now though so my temps are perfect again anyway! :blsmoke:

I've had to go back to a magnetic ballast this week too, 600W still. The digital ballast was a piece of shit! It was a Sunmaster, don't buy it. It just kept failing and was very unreliable. The guy at the hyrdro shop said 'oh no! not another one!' when I phoned to sort out a replacement. He also said the Lumatek ones were just as bad and he recommended going for a magnetic ballast and would refund the difference. They are going to stop selling the digital ballasts until they are proven to be more reliable. So just a word of warning on digital ballasts.

Apart from that all is going well and I'm very pleased with progress. You can see for yourselves in a bit as I'll be posting the pics to mark the start of 6 weeks flowering!

what happened to your journal mate? I remember you starting it up and it looked like it was gonna be good, but then you stopped updating it. Obviously your plants are still going though...and that's the main thing!

shit! I'm a twat. Just got up and caught a sight of my remote grow room thermometer. 25 deg C....at 6:30AM.....WTF!!!! Temps should be 17-18 deg C right about now. FUCK...I know what I've done!

When I swapped out my shitty ballast yesterday I turned on my timer manually and forgot to set it back to 'Auto'....so my lights have been burning for 18 hours!! FUCK!!!! I just went down to my shed and killed the lights.....but FUCK IT! I'm sooo cross with myself. What to do now!

Well, I haven't decided yet. I was thinking of flipping my lights cycle anyway so lights run at night to help with hot summer daytime temps. So I think I may just leave the lights off all day, then start the 12-12 back up at 10pm tonight. I would rather of given them an exteneded dark cycle for this, but cos I fucked up, I don't have a choice anymore! Or I may give them a full 24 hours dark and start up the lights at 10am tomorrow again. hmmmm! :-?

hahahah, LOL....yeah man. Cheers for the positive spin on my fuck up!

Light cycle is flipped now anyway. Running lights on from 10pm-10am. I'm gonna have to turn my fans down though as my room is a bit cool at night with the lights running, too cool is easy to fix though!
