Jamaican landrace?

Can anyone help identify this strain? I got the seeds from a guy on the beach in Jamaica. I know there's Lambs Bread and Jamaican Pearl but what about other strains that grow on the island?

wow i didnt even look at di pic that is sweet!! the color is a color i havnt seen on a stem bfor! cant wait to see when its done. best of luck to yuh
 
lolol...gotta be kidding for all the guesses as to what it is., its not even out of the ground yet. most what ive had direct from there was crap. even the real deal bob marley used to smoke. a bud of mine is direct family and i was gifetd a couple beens way back and i didnt like it.
 
and there was no name for his own stuff...people think it was clled lambs breath. that is just a jamaican term for good weed. then the name had the usualy play on it to make it a seller. its not the real deal
 
I don't think its possible to type a strain based on looking at a half-erupted sprout.

As mentioned, the term "lambs bread" (sometimes "lamb's breath") was used by Bob Marley and others to refer to their favorite strain from the 1970s, which presumably would have been among the best of the heirloom strains grown in Jamaica at the time. That's probably a long-flowering low-yielding Sativa plant, not well suited for indoor cultivation under lights.

Also, frankly, its not clear to me how many strains are growing native in Jamaica or how different they are. My understanding is that there are lots of clandestine (and not so clandestine) fields of the stuff growing and lots of its gets cross-pollinated. The traditional Jamaican heirloom strains (ie "landrace") have likely been corrupted by influx of faster-breeding/higher-yielding Dutch genetics in the last 10-20 years. So any random weed you buy there is likely to be just that. . random. The average grower there probably just calls his stuff "ganja" and grows it from whatever seeds were left over from the previous crop.

The likelihood that some seeds you buy from some guy on a beach are going to be genetically identical to what Bob Marley talked about in the 1970s is pretty slim.
 
agreed on all points. I'm only hoping that someone who has grown a Jamaican strain might recognized the unique color.
 
not only can nobody say what strain this is but you cant even honeslty prove its even cannabis unless the op says it is. funny to even see a mention of any strain involved. for all we know it may be a reg been...i know its not.
 
Best Bet would be to Pollenate it from it if its male Auto Flowering strain like Auto AK or Lowryder to shorten its hight and flowering time:-)

Why cross it with something with Ruderalis in it, a species of cannabis so low in potency that some botanists argue it belongs in the hemp family?

There are MANY short flowering strains that could be picked, some even pure sativas that most people do not know exist.

Why ruin something that might be good just trying to shorten the flowering time when instead the same basic high might be able to be retained and still have a shorter flowering time?
 
I've traveled to Jamacia probably a dozen times over the years. Everytime I get weed, it's terrible. Just terrible seedy, shit tasting, like it's been wet. The only place I've gotten worse weed than Jamacia was Costa Rica ($20 oz compressed utlra dirt) and Hawaii (beatiful looking but fake weed, no time to inspect). I don't know where the Jamacia rep comes from.

However, I saw this new strain on Sannies site a couple of weeks ago. Might be exactly what some people are looking for if you have time to flower it. Colombian Gold x Jamaican Lambsbread.

I agree with every word of this response.

Furthermore, you can't tell what something is based off of sprouting. You're going to have a helluva time finding out what it is based on just the veg cycle as well. Best bet on your part is to take a small clone while it's vegging and flower that clone immediately. Not only to find out if you got a male bean or not, but to also know what it flowers like. I'm assuming you have some sort of tropical sativa (long flowering time). If you want to shorten the flowering time, make your own hybrid, get some urkle or big bud to cross it with. Just my .02
