Just another DIY COB build

Yes you are right with the freebies, I gave them to my friend to do with them as he pleases :D Usually all autos and I do not grow them. Man you got bushes in there like I've never seen I love COBs! I'm in a process of building my own fixture with 600W dimmable driver dimmed to 450W and with 6 Citizen 1825 in 3000K for flower. What an inspiration here, keep it up!
thanks man. i will keep the updates coming. cant wait to build and run my COB flowering setup. im a little nervous after my blurple experience from many years ago but COBs are a whole different animal.

Well I got myself 100W blurple COB and hooked fan to it's driver. Gotta say it performs surprisingly good for what it is. No match for the CItis I'm sure but it gets the job done for veg, haha. I got 16 tops on this girl. Too bad I have not enough light for flower, but I roll with what I got :D

What's your feed ec at? I can't seem to get mine green no matter how high I go and I don't want to fry them
Keep in mind this is for 12 plants, but I use the Maxi series keeping the ppm between 500-700, including 2 oz every few days of calmag as needed, I add mammoth P once a week.

The photo you see are 4 plants in a 4x4 at around 1.5 months old just flipped to flower 5 or so days ago.

You plants might need some help up taking the nutes, definitely recommend mammoth P if you can afford it.

That sounds like a great veg time, what was the RH in your room? How did you trained them? I got good soil for now, them I gotta tweak it for the white COBs, haha, that's gonna be the tricky part. Thank you. Happy new year!

bushy isnt a strong enough adjective. gonna have unlimited amount of cuts available soon which is good because SOG is needy in the clone department. if you guys havent checked out my overvegged SOG thread i'll put a link up here. my first SOG and im still learning. should still be a good run and one of my last with HID lighting :) https://www.rollitup.org/t/2000w-sog-chem-d-cookies.927762/page-3

RH is low, around 30-40 at 83F lights on and 65 lights off. Literally get a net and put it in a part of each bucket to hold down the plants and just scrogged at 8" as you're supposed to for that style of growing, easy as that topped 4 times

What distance are you from your canopy ? I have 16 going in 4ft x 4ft at about 325 watts diy cxb3590 (2 ½ weeks in veg), from the top of the bucket they are approx 24” away. All of the plants are lime green. Right beside the 4 x 4 I have another 8 going using a 200w BC Blond at 33” and they all look perfect. Huge difference in between the two in terms of color, the only difference is the light source. Same strains, feeding schedule, same room.

I figured I could run the 325 watts a little closer as the COB’s are spread over 16 sq/ft evenly, the BC light is 4 x 50 watts in a 12” x 12” box so the light is more intense. I just raised the 325w to a 32” height to see if the color comes back, if not I will back it down to 225-250 watts. 2 more weeks and they are going into a 1800 watt cob flower room.

i have been raising my light as much as possible. i think i am around 3 feet away with no reflectors at the moment. i may eventually dim down and lower the light if i feel like i need to. i have been foliar feeding really light N and heavy liquid karma to green them up. my ec is at 2.0 and they are still light. its crazy! the color looked "healthier" under the t5's but the difference in growth rates and bushiness is absurd. as soon as i dial the lights and food in these will be unstoppable

Reporting back on my lime green situation. I changed nothing and the plants have darkened up nicely as I near the end of the stretch. The bigger older plants are so green that I am going to back off on nutrients for a little bit on them.

Now I don't know any better so take this with a grain of salt, but I think the plants were growing so fast that they couldn't get some nutrient (probably nitrogen) up from the soil fast enough. The only thing I can think of to move the nitrogen faster is to have a better soil ph, the dirt I get around here all more acidic than I would like. Runoff started at 5.7 and is now 6.1 on the younger plants and now 6.4 on the older ones. I ph corrected my water to 7.5 this entire run to compensate for this trying to get the runoff to 6.5. I still have a bunch of soil to use up so the next run I will water with a ph of 8.0 and see what happens.

ran into my first of many snags im sure. my heatsinks are from kingbrite and they are not pre drilled for my holders. i ordered them when they were out of stock on cobkits. another lesson learned lol. now its off to buy a tap or two in case i break one.
Can I ask which heatsinks you got, I'm looking at These Kingbrite Heatsinks (click) and just want to make sure they'll be compatible as stated with the 3590's as stated. Also can you confirm whether they're aptly passive? First time ordering from Kingbrite so a little apprehensive.

Cheers

AH your not using the 3590 nm. Can you comment on the heatsink though, do they keep the cob cool?
Hell yeah! Barely warm, nowhere near hot to the touch. This is at about 40w per cob. I showed a couple buddies who veg under hid and t5 and they were blown away. I can seal that tent up with almost no air flow and it still wouldn't get too hot

i think i might have enough clones now :) finally getting some dark green coming in. been slowly upping the N and the foliar. i think i will be taking cuts any day now. i need to get off my ass and pop all my beans but im afraid i will run short on room. i need to time it so that when my vert tent comes down, it will get transformed into the veg tent and the veg tent will become trim/dry tent again. lots to do, lots to do.

my germ rates for these seeds were not the greatest. the quattro kush looked pale and white but i still got 6/10 so far. the citral flo is at 5/6 and the harambe is at 7/10. its still a few days early to call them duds but its not looking very promising for the laggers lol. all in all im still in good spirits about them and know i will have some FIRE when its all said and done. as long as i get one keeper from each one i will be content. what really pisses me off is when i get more than one keeper from the same beans and i have to explain to retards how they are exactly the same strain and they act all confused and bewildered.
