She was really happy after the chicken breast I cooked for her cooled down and she got a nice snack. She's curled up on the bed next to the lady while she's doing something on her tablet and happy as a clam right now.
I think she knows she's in a good place. She spent a couple hours sniffing all around the yard and inside the house. Now that she's gotten that out of the way she just wants to hang out close to us.

She slept like a baby. The only problem is that she snores.
She's following me everywhere I go when she's not snoozing.
Snoring? Try a 170 lb Mastiff sometime.
I swear I hear thunder in the distance some nights.

I can't even imagine how she must feel being in her new family . As the days go by she'll just feel safer and safer . She has such a sweet face !

Gave her a bath tonight. She was a little reluctant at first but stood there obediently as she got sprayed down, lathered up, and rinsed off in the walk in shower. She enjoyed the drying off with the towels though.
She sure is a bigger dog than I'm used to. She's solid muscle and extremely strong. She could do some damage. I've taken her for quite a few walks as she is full of energy. I had a couple people walk out into the street as we walked down the sidewalk. I maintain constant control over her though and I'll move down and hold the harness when people are close so I have better control. She hasn't displayed any aggressiveness but I haven't had her very long. I'm keeping a very close eye on her behavior.
She's on clonidine for anxiety and she doesn't like cars. They seem to scare her. Lots of shelter dogs have anxiety just from being in the shelter so I'm hoping to wean her off of it as she gets acclimated and more comfortable.
The bonding has been really fast. The lady and I went to the store and were gone for an hour at most. When we got home we could hear her whining while we were getting out of the car in the garage. As soon as we walked in she was jumping all over us. She knocked my glasses off and was going crazy for a few minutes. I bent down to pet her and she proceeded to paint my face with her tongue.
All my dogs in the last 10-15 years have been old shelter bitches that nobody else wanted. Almost every one of them have been the most loyal loving dogs you could imagine. Dogs are loyal and if you get their trust you have a friend for life. Or a jerk that takes your side of the bed.
Here's the photo from the Shelter in Washington she came from. She looks pretty mean so it's not surprising nobody came in wanting to adopt her. She looks mean and being 8 years old not many people want to even look at her. I don't know what it was but for some reason I had to see the dog. It was fate. At first the lady said no way in Hades. She didn't even want to look at her but once we did she was onboard. I have another dog on the radar. You need a pair to keep each other company when you're gone.
I'm thinking of getting her a spiked collar.

Being taken in as a stray leaves lots of questions as to what she experienced in life and how she'll react to new people and situations . You know that and are proceeding with love and caution at the same time . It's day by day with a dog like that . My little dude was the same way but I was lucky in the sense that he's so small that people don't cringe when they see him , and when he lashed out he's not capable of doing much damage .Gave her a bath tonight. The pic of her at the shelter shows a look of trepidation , unsure and suspicious of what's going to happen next .
How big is she ? It's kinda hard to tell from pics . How much does she weigh ? The shelter pic almost looks like she has some Great Dane in her with all those legs .
She seems to have accepted you as hers and you reciprocate in kind , that part happening so soon is a great sign of things to come . I and I'm sure many others here are very interested in her progress , but I promise I won't bug you (much) .
I wonder if leaving her something with your scent on it like a piece of clothing might help with her separation anxiety ?

I don't know what she has in her but you're right about that picture making her look like there's some Dane but she's too short for that I would think. I've spent hours looking at different dog breeds. I thought Boxer/Lab, Pitbull/Lab boxer/Doberman, there are so many hybrids out there and I can find pictures that resemble her in all of them. I found a photo of a Lab/Mini Doberman that looked just like her. I guess the only way to find out is with a DNA test.
She's definitely a different experience from all the old rescue Chihuahua and Chihuahua mixes I've had over the last couple of decades.

He's like 7-8 months yeah. His limitations are definitely solely on me and my training. Still have a problem with him nipping and biting. But he definitely does it out of boredom and to communicate. Which is on me and not stimulating him enough. But I kind of feel like he is a mutant and seems to need more than the average dog.
