Just potentially had a stroke of genius!!! ( creation of a new super soil )

Salutations RIU, As an organic farmer, and a stoned thinker, I am constantly considering new ideas to try both in veggie garden, and for MJ plants. I get all my nutes from compost teas I formulate and create myself, and the inclusion of epsom salts, elemental sulphur, and bone meal ( soil and water have Ph around 7.5 unamended ). I now have a system whereby whether indoor or out, I don't really have to check my Ph as it ranges predictably from 6.3-6.7, and has never strayed once I got it locked in. So, to cut to the chase, here is my idea, and just wonder what people will think of it. I will probably be trying this, and I'll let you know how it goes.

My thought is that if I dig out my compost pile, and increase the depth of the hole it is in, fill that hole with a decent potting soil, cover potting soil with a sturdy screen material, and put compost on top of screen, over the course of say 2-3 months that soil is going to have had literally gallons of organic materials pass through it, and I'll bet it will be mega fertile. What do you folks say?

probably would work try it out. I know on our ranch, after we got rid of our horses the manure pile stated having things grow out of it and now, it looks like a rainforest in the middle of our property.

its not going to be that great or powerful. Its simply organic particles, the tea your giving it is probably just as good

You don't understand, Gr33nCrack, for a compost pile to function properly, it has to be wet down regularly. Therefore the same organic materials which I brew into compost teas, would seep dow to the soil below. Sort of super saturation with the compost tea.

As far as organics go, I think thats a great creation. I wish I could say what it would do to the soil, but I think thats something only time can tell us......SO, I am going to be a bandit of thoughts and go try it out myself. I am sucking down some uber boredom and this is my cure. I hope you dont mind me stealing your idea Denofearth69. I could'nt help it, combination of boredom and a ingenius idea....pushed me over the edge

My guess is that is going to certianly increase organic matter, and I think I am going to do it with Subcools Super Soil, and then a compost pile over it. I am pretty sure that is going to be some killer soil in 2-3 years it could be god send

I don't understand... uuhmm dirt + compost + compost tea = good dirt.... pretty fucking simple... As for compost having to be wet to function properly I just finished spraying 2 bins completely filled in my backyard

Right, and now imagine that you have good soil for growing underneath. All the beneficials which usually either wash away into the ground, instead is soaking into your growth medium.

You go for it potologist That's why I posted so the idea could be explored by any who read it.

hahaa, dude its the same thing. IMAGINE, taking all the good shit you feed your plants, all your organics that is. Brewing all that up in a tea for weeks and weeks but instead you mix like 5 times the amount as you normally would... it would just be excess nutrients for the plants, it would be great stuff but would take that much longer for the plant to use it, maybe even burn your plants??? And if I am now understanding correctly, you want to preserve the left over soil that has all that rich organic goodness... but wouldn't it just be like soil with compost tea in it?? You're basically re-using your soil. I'd bet a compost pile has as much as some soil like that, if not more. I just filled 2 five gallon buckets with pure compost and some perlite and added my seedlings to that, hopefully they will catch up to the other plants, happy growing

hers the simplest way to go (it may take back labor but hey, doesn't all great organic farming?), its what i have done for about 2 years now.......

all you need to do is increse the size of your compost by pushing out the sides, dig it down and install a screen on the bottom of the compost. the screen has to be small enough that only the larger and more decayed of the compost falls through, but large enough that it wont get clogged.

now you also have all the room you need to mix your compost bin with 30-50% premium soil mixture so that you can take the creme of the crop from the bottom and add it directly to your soil mixture..... this should take care of the nutrient needs through vegetative growth, it works great for me.
