Just Right Xtra, made with general hydroponics ingredients. Anyone?

Has anyone tested this media? It says specifically not to pH and to use organics. I like that.

Just Right Xtra from Nickel City Wholesale Garden Supply. It is made in NY.

The pH tested high (7.4), and it also tested high in iron and silica. Supposedly has very little cal-mag pre-charge.

I'm thinking a pH 7.4 to start and 1300 ppm are both kinda high. Results anyone?

I use it no real problems with the medium itself and I use AN nutrients with it

I'm just wondering what "impurities" in sphagnum peat moss the marketer is talking about...as in Promix, for example which costs a lot less.

I can also see a lot of problems and frustrations with beginners, too, because it's already a hot mix. Few beginning growers have the discipline to wait out for that first real feeding!

The ad also mentions that the mix contain phosphates, which offer no real advantage, because most form of phosphates are NOT available the first year- only about 10-20% the first year. Takes a while for this shit to become available to the plant. It's in the dumpster, or bedding for your houseplants by then.

Same can be basically said for Diatomite.

The beneficials are nice, though, although they border on snake-oil territory.

SO, you have your first few weeks covered, cool. The amendments and bennies can't hurt, I guess.

But I SURE AM INTERESTED on this hangup about sphagnum. Never ever heard of such a thing, and have never ever had the need to research such a topic. Never ever had any troubles. Tried and true, in my book!

I've found quite a few references to impurities in peat, but they mostly refer to bits of sand and other particulate matter that is removed from the peat pre-sale.
I'm mixing it with some cheaper peat, coco, and redwood bark. Always interested in trying out new products

ive used this brand for a few grows with about 20% cut with perlite. plants always thrived in it. love the results never had an issue, but i wanted a more earthy taste so i switched soils to fox farms.

thanks for the feedback. its hard to imagine something better than fox farm ocean forest, but obviously just right xtra is an attempt.

My local shop is pushing Just Right Xtra hard. I mean hard. THey have total wood over it. Not sure why. They've been trying to get me to switch from FFOF to JRX. I told them maybe after I try Sunshine Mix #4 and ProMix first. LOL. Then they gave me a free sampler bag of Sunshine #4. Sweet!

Anyone living around socal know where to get this stuff? I have yet to find it locally...

The new FoxFarm is crap depending on where you purchase it. On the east coast it's recycled and many growers report a lot of bugs.

You are better off just mixing up your own for less then half price at better quality.

And Just Right Xtra is made by General Hydroponics. It looks like a solid mix for newbies or people that don't have the option to mix their/source their own.
