God damn everyone....
i just got back from watchin the kelly pavlik fight. i grew up with this dude, went to the same school with him, fuckin used to kickit with him all the fuckin time. tonight he fought bernard hopkins. hopkins is an over the hill boxer, attempting to make a comeback. well, tonight he did.
Pavlik, undefeated, went up against hopkins tonight, with everyone in the entire world expecting to see bernard knocked out for the first time in his carreer, but what they ended up seeing and what they expected to see were two entirely different things.
kelly pavlik lost his fight tonight. not only did he lose, but he got beat the fuck down. sure i could say a million and a half shitty things about bernard hopkins and his fighting tactics, his unrelenting urge to hug kelly throughout the fight, but no, this one was kelly's fault. kelly was just outclassed. hopkins was faster, stronger, threw more punches, and landed more punches. it was a scorecard win, but a win nonetheless, tarnishing kellys undefeated record. Pavlik is still the middleweight champ, and still 3 million dollars richer, but it looked like he left something in the ring when he lost tonight. he looked like a defeated man, and it is a truly sad, sad day in ohio today.
I have no doubt hell bounce back though, there isnt a fighter in the 160 weightclass that can contend with Pavlik - he really is the best fighter in his class, but tonight, it just wasnt there. kelly was slow, and he held back his punches - usually he throws 60-70 punches per round, but tonight it was more like 25-30-40 punches per round. he just couldnt catch hopkins. he couldnt hit him with his right, he couldnt hit him with his left. pavlik got in probably about 10 good body shots and i only saw one good shot to the head. fuckin sucks man.
O well though, life goes on, kelly goes back to his gym in his hometown, to train some more and get ready to fight joe calzaghe, who by the way, is no match for pavlik, and hell prove that in a few months when they fight. I just hope he doesnt let this loss affect him too much. he honestly looked like he lost the superbowl or some shit man, he looked like his heart was broken, and thats not the kelly pavlik that i know.
