Know your Enemy: Light Leaks

I do not think that I did. If you can be more specific with your objection, then maybe we can hone in on where the confusion is.

I'm not a breeder but pretty sure using a plant that hermied to produce female seeds is not the way its done. It is my understanding that any plant that shows herm traits is quickly culled from the program. Femmed seeds are forced to self pollinate using a variety of chemicals and then either pollen is used to creat seeds on that plant or another of the same pheno. Again not a breeder so I may be wrong.

Know your enemy: Spreaders of hogwash, poppycock, and just plain bullshit.

Light leaks don't cause plants to herm. A light leak (much larger than a pinhole lmao) can prevent onset of flowering and trick a flowering plant into re-vegging. But herms? No. Some nights I can see well enough to read a newspaper from the moon's reflection.
Lol, he said poppycock :)

I had one actual hermie, and my other two just threw a couple nanners-but that is real disel genetics for ya'. After I fixed the light leaks, NO NANNERS. Anything with disel in the genetics is prone to do it. Especially during week 6 on. Everything in my tent threw at least one nanner, so I'm confident it's the light leak. They are elite s1's, I was expecting it.
I may have to eat my words Squidbilly. What at first looked like male flowers coming from the preflower spots now appear to be bunches of leaves with calaxes and pistils. It almost looks like branches coming from the preflower spots, quite strange. I am now getting pistils everywhere and no signs of male flowers. Glad I didn't immediately pull them. Thanks for letting me know yours turned around as well, that is what convinced me to leave them a few days. I will keep you posted.

Ok, so I misspoke a little. You don't just grab a hermie and shake it over top of another plant. You purposefully induce the sex change. Sure you could take a natural hermie, but then you are selecting an undesirable trait. My plan for creating fem seeds is to spray a plant with colloidal silver for the first couple of weeks of flower, collect the pollen, and then sprinkle it over another strain, finally collecting the seeds which will hopefully be a nice cross (and feminized). I'll be using a pollen donor that has no known hermie issues and is in fact quite resistant to stress. Sorry for the confusion. No, I would not select a plant that is prone to hermie for my pollen donor.

Breeding with hermie pollen is fine as long as it's not either majorly herming from head to toe, a hermie offspring that came from a hermie mom, or a hermie with siblings that also hermed. Those wouldn't be good to use.

A female plant that grows a small number of male flowers toward the bottom, early in flowering, that doesn't grow back after being removed, whose siblings didn't show any signs is one that you should be able to breed with and get positive results.

I did it a few times with "good" hermaphrodites and got good offspring that didn't herm and were very vigorous. I've used the "no no" herms and got really bad results.

for all the people that talk about moon and other such lighting around there outdoor plant's, i believe from research that a plant will get use to such lighting and the environment during Veg and builds a tolerance to it...thus having no problems when it Flowers....

I see pin holes of light coming from my cab. No issue with herms. I taped and sealed everything. Its wood and has a long piano hinge. And all of it is sealed with window foam where the surfaces meest. Its positive pressure. The pin hole leaks are from the hinge area. Very small. Weak genetics or extreme light leaks are the problems.

Do everything you can to eliminate them though.

Do i have a bad strain that will take 15-20 weeks to finish, or something else? Its been 6 weeks flowering, and i dont mind counting the flowering weeks cause im tired of not seeing buds,i may have light leak the past 4 weeks so now im considering my plant is just flowering(now without light leak)for 2 weeks.

the leaves just keep growing and the supposedly bud sites are not having actual buds, just new leaf growth all over, but every new leaf growth has pistils too, what is happening?

pistils growing every node of the plant so definitely its a female (not sure if it will turn to be hermie later on, i wish it wont)

What strain is it. I've grown out some 15-20 week strains. They are slow but worth the wait.

I dont know what strain is it cause here in Philippines we dont have names of our strains. But its sativa and i heard what ur saying of 15-20week plant, but does my plant look good? I mean, am i really growing cannabid sativa and not motha fuckin hemp? Lol.

Is my plant ruined or I'll just have to be more patient, and wait and wait and wait. This is grown indoors and my first ever successful grow until flowering stage. And im happy if i can harvest some buds on my plant,

Nice plant bro.. I have same problem I flipped to 12/12 two weeks ago still no bud formation. I have 3 4x4 tents in same room it's pitch dark in there but realized my air vents are open so I hope that the light from that didn't fuck up my grow cause they come on diff times.. Any info would be great Thanks and good luck bro

I've always wondered, how is it that cannabis can compensate for moonlight, but God forbid a shred of light gets into a closet?

L the corners and pin holes.. Thanks brother good luck

Never had a plant turn hermaphrodite on me. I suspect the nanners guys see that are normal in late flower confound them and they assume they've done something wrong. I've even had my timer go out, or wasn't using a timer and I plum forgot to turn the lights off, and I still only got a few bananas. And even still with several bananas I only found a few seeds. Ppl like finding seeds in my buds, it was like getting a prize in a Cracker Jack box, even though they won't get but watered down genetics they didn't know that.
Dannyboy why when you find a seed in bud is it watered down genetics? Some of the best breeding projects in the world are from bag seeds such as the 91 Chem, Chem D, Chem 4 and all the associated crosses. Im just curious so I can learn more about genetics?
