LA Woman (first grow)

Do you have a thermometer in there? A hygrometer would be nice too but probably unnecessary since there wont be much you can do to change the rh. How soon are you gonna switch to 12/12? I guess this is pretty much like a SOG but without the S. As far as your fan setup goes have you thought of switching from blow to suck? Nothing wrong with starting small, you have a lot higher likelihood of success than some idiots I've seen trying to do elaborate setups to start with. You may not yield much but it will be fun and satisfying to smoke your own bud for the first time. I wouldnt bother with the cloning on your first run but its your grow.

I am lacking a thermometer/ hygrometer. I realize i need to get one pretty immediately. She's starting to get bushy enough that I am considering another CFL down there to light the whole plant well, but I don't want to overheat the area. I don't know how I can change my fan to suck?

Also, I have a humidifier that has 3 settings so my humidity can be adjusted at least somewhat...

Remember that your plant will triple it size when you flower it, so be ready to flower very very soon!
I'l keep scoping this journal.
Keep up brother! :bigjoint:

Hey those plants still rockin' & rollin' ? lol How they doing? pics
She seemed a little bit sad today for some reason. I checked the soil and it was completely dry even after watering yesterday. I might not be watering ENOUGH. I watered her again and while I did this, I took the soil pH.

Can anyone help me make sense of these results?

I will have some pics of her shortly. I am letting her (hopefully) perk up after watering.

So no one knows what all that stuff about the pH means?

The picture is included in a link in an above post, but for those of you too lazy to click, the data reads:

200+ ppm nitrate
about 2.0 ppm nitrate
300+ ppm GH (total hardness)
about 40 ppm KH (total alkalinity)
and about 6.2 pH

From what I am currently experiencing with LA woman and others you look a little too acidic. Possibly poor ventilation and/or lighting. Personally I think you need a bigger space, but who am I? Do that dresser thing, It works out great! I'll get some pics up tomorrow. Good Luck dude!

yo my man, for your question pertaining to plants and music, i suggest you look into the studies of Cleve Backster and others in his field to find out more on this topic of plant perception...peace

I added another CFL. They are 43 watts each and daylight temperature (5500k). They seem to be working pretty well, and they don't seem to throw off a lot of heat. I can feel the fan pull from underneath my desk where my feet are just slightly, so I don't think the temp is too terribly hot, and my room temperature is reading 73 degrees on my heater, which is always plugged in for temp readings, but rarely turned on except if I opt to smoke at night and have to open the window.

Anyway, I'm high, so I'm ranting. I think you are absolutely right that I need a larger space. I am doing what I can. I won't have money again till the 1st of February though, so it's tough to set anything new up without a single dollar of funds. However, on the 1st I plan on building an area in which I can take plentiful clones from the mom and eventually move her into to flower as well.

Currently, she is in a 1 gallon pot... will she need more root space soon?

This is great. Thank you for this info!

So here is a crappy angle but high resolution pic of her today. I fimmed last night, and I am hoping I did it right. I am starting to see colas forming in the centers of the top fan leaves... am I wrong?

Today is 17 days since planting the ungerminated seed
14 days since I had a light on her
11 days (approx?) since she actually popped above ground... I was out of town when it actually happened. Anyway...

Do you guys prefer when I post the pics right in the text or when I post links to the pics instead?

Hello all,

I transplanted her last night from a 1-gallon bucket to a 3-gallon bucket and moved her from behind my desk into my newly set up stealth dresser.

The reason I transplanted was because she was starting to get some yellow on her outside fan leaves. At first I thought this was N deficiency, but when I searched around more, I found that when a plant doesn't have enough root space sometimes it manifests this as yellowing leaves.

When I pulled the 1-gallon bucket out of the space behind my desk, I found that her roots were already sticking out the bottom. My guess is that this was the problem.

I did a rather poor job transplanting her (some of the roots broke) so she went into some kind of shock right away. But she seems to be doing a little bit better this morning. Here are pics of my new space and her at 20 days from ungerminated seed and freshly transplanted.

Hello,

I burned her pretty badly with nutes. I don't know what I was thinking. Can she make it through? Any suggestions? I have already flushed it last night, now I'm waiting for it to dry out before I water her again...

Here's a pic. Any advice?

The healthy happy looking plant is a clone I got for free today. She is Grape Ape. I don't want to hurt her like I've hurt my seedling! :-?

Okay, I moved both plants out of the stealth set-up and just into my closet. If I get caught, fuck it. My plant needs to live.

I trimmed all the fan leaves that were wilting. She looks happy to be seeing the light. I can't believe I burned her so bad, but I think she's gunna live.

Btw, the Grape Ape clone I got yesterday is vibrant.

Here's pics of L.A. Woman.

I made a brand spankin' new grow room, with the KNOWLEDGE of aforementioned roommates. :weed:

It is nearly half my closet! It's 40 inches wide by 26 inches deep by 65 inches high!

I am now also looking into getting a 1000 watt switchable ballast MH / HPS!!

My grow has gotten like 100 times better IMHO!

Temperature is constantly around 73-75 degrees F.

L.A. Woman is reviving well. Unfortunately, as a result of my stupidity, it's going to take her a lot longer in veg stage than I thought. But this is my first grow; ya live, ya learn. She's got new fan leaves and new growth now.

The Grape Ape clone is the one in the black bucket. L.A. Woman is next to her, with the thermometer there. The 3rd plant is my new Purple Head Knockin' Haze clone!!!! :D

Well, they are sleeping now, so more pics tomorrow!

I too ordered from attitude and got free LA Woman and she's the first seed I'm sprouting. I have yet to pick up my Northern Lights. Anyway, LA was placed into rockwool cub two days and she's sprouting already. I think I'll start a grow journal too so we can compare. Good luck to ya, paying for good smoke is indeed hurting the wallet!

Hello,

Got a 1000 watt HPS over the weekend. This is what it looks like now.

L.A. Woman is growing, but slowly. The PHK Haze has some fan leaves that are drooping and some that are turning their tips upwards. I think that I overwatered today... plus I have heard Hazes are finicky.

In good news though, the Grape Ape clone is huge.

Is my light far enough from my plants?

The light isn't too far, maybe not far enough. I'd keep a close eye on your temps with that running. Especially with the econowing goin on there, without any airflow that room is going to hit 90 without a problem. Lookin good so far man, keep it up

Yeah, the light wasn't far enough and the two clones got burned (a bit). Somehow, L.A. Woman didn't get burned at all, and now is revived and growing better than the clones again. Agh, the confusions of growing and getting a new clone each week! :P My new clone for this week is White Widow!

So...I'm going to go purchase a larger fan today with a higher cfm rate and cool out my grow space a bit more! The plants are already a lot happier since I moved the light way up (like 2 feet up).

Sooo... here's L.A. Woman. I trimmed off most of the older growth and the new growth is bursting.

Here's my Grape Ape clone... a little bit sunburnt still (hard to tell from the pic).

Here's the Purple Head Knockin Haze clone... also a bit sunburnt still.

Finally, this is my new White Widow clone! And I recommend anyone who shops the Lower Front Range check out CTC. They are my caregivers and provide me with the free clones.

Thanks for all the advise so far guys!
I am going to be transplanting into Smart Pots soon (my shipment comes in on Monday or Tues.) Can anyone tell me the best medium to use for the Smart Pots? I'm almost out of Fox Farm soil and I've heard that coconut (?) makes a good substrate.

Well... she is fully revived from the bad nute burn. This is good news for the strain LA Woman; she is strong even for noobs who screw up.

I will be flowering her soon, maybe another week or so of veg. Plus probably the Grape Ape and PHK Haze clones I will flower at the same time. I will probably veg out the WW clone and my new Kali Kush clone (pictured) for a while more under the old CFL's during the time period that the others are flowering.

Yay :D
