I have a couple questions about a plant with very few trichomes. I have unsuccessfully looked for these answers, so if you know of something I missed please let me know. I'll put the specific questions below, but understanding how difference every situation is I'll start with a summary of the grow.
I have two plants that are both on day 28 of 12s. They are 18" from the top of pot to top of plant, and in a cabinet that has 36" from floor to the bottom of the LEDs. The first pic I'll attach includes both, a Northern Lights on the left and an unknown sativa dominant looking lady on the right. Both appear healthy and have no recent stresses. They have developed similarly through the first 4 weeks of flowering, although the NL is bushier and its buds are slightly larger.
Other than the width of the leaflets, however, the biggest difference is the number of trichomes. The NL has a large number (pic attached to show what I consider a large number), and the mystery sativa-dom has hardly any (more pics). The mystery lady also has double serrates (pic attached). I read to see if this would tell me anything about her, but it seems pretty common.
Obviously I'll have my answers in time, but any feedback to the following questions would be appreciated:
Q: Does the lack of trichomes at this stage indicate anything definitive about this plant?
Q: Do sativa dominant plants generally produce less trichomes (or produce them later in the flowering) than indica doms like this one?
As long as the sative dom produces some decent bud I really don't care if it's not super strong. This is a personal grow so yields and strength aren't my main goals. What I would love is to have two very different smokes from these, which it would appear I am getting.
