Leaf Curl?

So I'm having unusual leaf curl. The sides of the leaves are curling upwards and in, as though the leaf is folding up. Has anyone experienced this and what could the causes be?

A little info: I am running an aeroponic system in veg stage, using 2 x 180W LEDs @12-15 inches distance from the plants. I am using GH flora series 3 part formula @ 540ppm. Roots misted 45sec on, 5min off. I have an oscillating fan blowing back and forth across the plants on low setting (I suspected that the fan may have had something to do with it so I raised it to blow slightly above the canopy instead of directly through the plants)

I want to say on my outdoor crop the heat can make it happen. If my girls need water the leaves droop.

GeeTee, the temp in the room is around 72-74 degrees. The LEDs run quite cool. I can even put my hand on them. One grow, I had plants grow right up to them and touch the lights without burning.

So you guys think it's water related? Meaning, not enough water? Like the leaves are cupping so as to decrease surface area and keep water in?

i believe cupping is cause when temps are high and plants have no water. my lemon and orange trees do this all the time. i thintk the plant is perspiring due to high temps and lack of water. try watering a lil more frequently or lower your temps

I'll go from 45seconds on 5 min off to 1 min on, 4 min off and see if that helps. Unless you recommend another timing schedule?

also i dont know if its your led or not but ive heard of people using leds having it to close and messing with their plants

could be...I don't have them overly close at the moment as the plants are still relatively small. I'd say about 12-20 inches from the top of the plants (some plants are larger than others). I'm concerned that the cupping also means that the leaves are not absorbing and utilizing the light efficiently for photosynthesis because their surface area is significantly diminished.

I am having the same problem - check your RH - (humidity) - plants in veg need a higher humidity and mine was sitting at 23% - it was causing the exact problem you are having. The ways to fix are to use a humidifier or you can use damp small towels hung up around the walls of your grow room (Bigger surface area the better) and just spray them every so often to keep them moist. Also, folier spray (Veg'n plants only) every few hours will increase humidity aswell :) Its helping my problem :)

you may be on to something mc. I just went and checked my bullshit, $5 Exo-Terra hygrometer from petco (who knows how accurate those things are) and it read about 45% which seems on the low side. I think plants like it more in the high 60's or low 70's right? Maybe as the plants get bigger and put more moisture into the air, it'll sort itself out. In the meantime I may need a humidifier like you said.

Or mist a lot

I'm often afraid to do this during the light phase. Doesn't this cause leaf burn? I think I inadvertently burned the leaves once by doing this, but I'm not positive...it could have been caused by something else I did.

Yep, and lower RH for flowering :) - Misting wont hurt with the lights on - just dont over do it :)
