Leaving my plants for a week. What should I do?

In a week or two, I will be going on vacation and leaving my plants for a week. There is nobody I can ask to water them for me.

Is there any sort of system I could set up that would water the plants at least once for me?

Would an aqua globe work?

Please, any ideas are welcome. I need help

Yeah, they aren't gonna die on you in a week from drying out. Just water em' and they should just be thirsty when you get back

That's relieving, but my system does seem to dry out the soil really quickly due to evaporation from the lights. Would it be bad if I put saran wrap over the pot to stop the water from evaporating out of the soil. My plant would still be able to drink it and it would delay the amount of time my plant is without water. Right?

You could get an Oasis Watering System. I have used one for up to two weeks.

why not take this as a opportunity to up pot and put them in bigger pots. bigger pot = more medium to retain water. don't know what they look like but figured i'd throw this out there as it could potentially fix your issues.

lol aqua globes
worst case scenario, they'll be SUPER DROOPY, but they can still be revived by watering when u come back.
just water a lot the day before or on the day u leave.

no this is a good suggestion. Luckily for me, the timing is perfect because I do need to transplant in a few days anyway.

I'm still wondering if the saran wrap idea is yay or nay. Anyone know?

I looked at that already. Doesn't seem practical at this point. Still waiting for a response on the saran wrap idea
Saran wrap huh?

Nahhhh....

If your so worried about your plant drying out, Transplant in a bigger container with one of them saucers underneath.

And water the plant until you see water in the saucer...

It'll be kind of like an emergency reserve for your plant.

But, If you transplanted lets say in a 3-5 gallon planter, you would have nothing to worry about and you wouldn't actually need the saucer underneath.

For departures I like to use a self watering pot. You can google or youtube it if you like. I've got a self watering system made from two 5 gallon buckets stacked together. The plant is in a bag made from horticulture cloth and there is a wicking tower that goes to the bottom of the pot and is continuous with the plant soil. I've also got some plastic at the top of the pot to slow down evaporation from the soil. People grow veggies and evergreens using this system and I've heard they can go a month without additional water. Check it out.

By the way, if you saran wrap the top of the pot and it stays dripping humid under the plastic you run the chance of growing stuff under there that is not good for your plant. So you may want to keep the plastic vented to allow some water loss.

get a globe, u would be surprised. Watered them good, left for Vegas for a week, came back they were shrivled as my grandpas balls

they recovered, but why stress em

they can drink alot in a week.....

as for syran wrap, just coat the topsoil in coco or hydroton

I went on vacation for a week.

I say re-pot them , and put them in a bigger bottom tray that will hold an inch of water or two. They will drink it up.

I wouldn't worry about root rot, as they will suck it up before it is a problem.

Just my $0.02 :leaf:

Thanks for all of the help everyone.
Alright as it turns out, I'll be gone from my plants for eleven days. My plan is to transplant into a bigger pot, water the pot thoroughly, put saran wrap over the pot with holes in it, and have the pot sitting in a tray with an inch or 2 of water. Do you guys think this would work? Could the growth be healthy?
